10 Amazing ISFP Anime Characters

Have you ever wondered which anime characters embody common characteristics of your personality type? Today we’re going to explore my choices for the ten most powerful ISFP anime characters. As an MBTI® practitioner, it’s tricky for me to type fictional characters because I can’t really sit down and interview them personally. It’s also difficult because when people write fictional characters, they often give them strengths of multiple personality types. That said, I’m going to do my best to type these characters as fairly and accurately as possible. Some of these characters I had to get second, third, or fourth opinions on because they were so tricky!

So without further ado, here are the ten ISFP characters that I think you’ll love as much as I did!

10 Amazing ISFP Anime Characters

Eren Yaeger from Attack on Titan

Eren Yaeger ISFP

“If someone tries to take my freedom away…I won’t hesitate to take theirs. Our father didn’t make me that way. I have been like this since birth.” – Eren Yaeger

Although he’s morally conflicted in many situations, Eren will always be my favorite AoT character. His passion propels him, sometimes altogether too soon, to take action. He firmly believes in his sense of right and wrong, although as he matures and ages, his values become much more complex and murky. Eren constantly analyzes his priorities and emotions in various situations and strives to bend every action to his ultimate desires and belief of what’s right. Loyal to his friends, and passionate to a fault, Eren struggles to rein in his impulses and act with self-control. Because of this I even was tempted to type him as ESFP, but I’d rather venture to guess that he’s an ISFP with an 8 or sexual 6 Enneatype.

Uta from Tokyo Ghoul

“We need to have a mask that we never take off.” – Uta

Artistic and individualistic, Uta channels his creative powers into his ghoul masks. He’s a passionate soul who yearns to feel alive in a world that seems bent on destroying his species. For Uta, as for most ISFPs, aesthetic integrity is crucial. He needs to believe in what he’s doing and enjoy it, often making sarcastic or playful quips during his battles to keep the energy lively and exciting. Independent and observant, in many ways, Uta is neither hero nor villain – living by his own set of rules and individualized ethics.

Ojira Mashirao from My Hero Academia

Calm and chivalrous, Ojira captures some of the best qualities of a healthy ISFP. He lives by his ethics and has a deep sense of inner integrity that he refuses to compromise. He even goes so far as to refuse to accept an award during a tournament because he feels he didn’t win it by his own strength. Sensitive and self-conscious, he swiftly puts his own life on the line in order to protect his fellow classmates. He follows his heart and his sense of right and wrong regardless of the trouble it may cause him in the long run.

Ai Ohto from Wonder Egg Priority

Ai Ohto has the heart and passion of the ISFP along with their natural sense of aesthetics. She rapidly notices details and points them out, complimenting people’s facial features and clothing styles or noticing advantageous angles in fights. Through much of the storyline, Ai is overwhelmed by anguish over her friend’s suicide. She often blames herself for other people’s struggles, but throughout the series we see her develop an inner vision and passion for saving people and bringing her friend back to life. This steeliness and inner drive and vision is one of the highlights of ISFPs when they bring their introverted feeling (dominant) side and introverted intuitive (tertiary) into alignment and then use action (extraverted sensation) to bring their goals to fruition.

Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia

“If you wanna stop this, then stand up! Because I’ve got one thing to say to you! Never forget who you want to become!” – Shoto Todoroki

While many people type Todoroki as INTJ, I believe this largely comes down to false stereotypes about ISFPs rather than a true understanding of what ISFPs are actually like. Todoroki is extremely swift at responding to immediate crises’ whereas an INTJ would resemble Lelouch vi Britannia (Code Geass) more, working in the background to create strategies and long-term plans. Todoroki tailors his life according to his value system. Everything he does must align with what he believes is personally right. He will even go so far as to lose an important fight if it means he’s adhering to his ideals. His introspective, ethical nature as well as his smooth reflexes on the battlefield reminds us of how powerful Introverted Feeling and Extraverted Sensation really are when they are working together.

Akira Fudo from Devilman Crybaby

“I can see where we are heading, and it is sad.” – Akira Fudo

Sensitive and compassionate, Akira Fudo will stop at nothing to help others and fight against evil. Yet even against his most bitter enemies he is able to see love and vulnerability. Like many ISFPs, he realizes that life isn’t as black-and-white as it would seem at first glance. Akira is so caring and devoted that he may sometimes land himself in precarious situations in order to defend others.  His sensitive soul can feel burdensome to him, as he so easily recognizes and empathizes with the suffering and hardships of others.

Yuichiro Hyakuya from Seraph of the End

“I don’t ever wanna say I survived because I left someone else to die ever again.” – Yuichiro Hyakuya

Driven and impulsive, Yuichiro will do anything to avenge his family for having been “killed” by vampires. While he can be aloof and reckless, he also has a kind-hearted and protective side. Like most ISFPs, he’s difficult to understand at first glance. There’s more to him than initially meets the eye. Some people judge his passion and single-minded drive as idiotic, while others empathize with his motivations. Yuichiro wants to understand himself and where he’s come from and he wants to protect his “family” no matter what it takes.

Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach

“Big brothers…you know why they’re born first? To protect the little ones that come after them!! What kind of brother says that he’ll kill his own sister?! Even a monster shouldn’t say that!” – Ichigo Kurosaki

Individualistic and stubborn, Ichigo Kurosaki might seem detached and stoic at first, but he has a deep well of caring underneath his aloof exterior. Like most IxFPs, Ichigo is deeply empathetic, even going so far as to console a giant after destroying his axe. He is constantly striving to live up to his own internal standards of what’s right. Like most Sensing-Perceivers, he thrives when he can act on impulse and follow his instincts. Because he’s an introverted feeler, his emotions rarely play across his face, but they are nevertheless deeply felt. He is genuinely compassionate and kind, soothing people when they are upset and standing up for them when they are in danger. But if you were to judge simply by his facial expressions, you might not realize the kind heart within. This is something that many ISFPs struggle with, as their warm-hearted, feeling side is generally more internalized than externally obvious.

San from Princess Mononoke

“I’m not afraid to die. I’d do anything to get you humans out of my forest!” – San

Stubborn, individualistic, and driven by her instincts, San captures a lot of what makes ISFPs shine. While she has many animalistic traits because of her upbringing, her compassion and conviction are things that most ISFPs will relate to. She will do whatever it takes to protect the forest and the animals, even if it means continuing to live apart from humans.

Haruka Nanase from Free!

“All I want is to feel the water. With my skin, my eyes, my soul…To never doubt what it makes me feel. Believe in myself. Don’t resist the water. Welcome it. We accept one another.” – Haruka Nanase

Haruka might seem stoic and cold at first glance, but he has a deep well of caring underneath his mysterious exterior. Like most Introverted Feeling dominant types, his warmth and sensitivity lie under the surface like the inside of a fur-lined coat. Although he appears quiet and cool, he is also determined, confident, and passionate. Water brings out his colorful inner emotions and allows him to feel free; something that all Sensing-Perceivers will relate to craving.
