ESTP – Remember the Titans

ESTP fall movie - Remember the Titans

“I don’t scratch my head unless it itches and I don’t dance unless I hear some music. I will not be intimidated. That’s just the way it is.” – Coach Herman Boone

Action-oriented and competitive, ESTPs like to make a big impact in the world around them. Like Coach Herman Boone in Remember the Titans, they’re often natural leaders with a no-nonsense attitude. Many an ESTP has mentioned this movie to me as a “must-watch. They enjoy the action of the movie, the intensity, as well as the overall themes of uniting people and working hard to achieve a common goal. One ESTP I spoke to noted that he appreciated that the movie wasn’t sappy or portentous and that it was based on real-life events.

ISTP – October Sky

ISTP fall movie - October Sky

“Coal mining may be your life, but it’s not mine. I’m never going down there again. I wanna go into space.” – Homer Hickam

ISTPs are often underrated in the type community. Many people paint all the visionaries as intuitive types, but many sensors are also visionaries and world-changers. ISTPs enjoy experimenting, innovating, and creatively using tools. Like all Introverted Thinking types (TPs) ISTPs want to understand how things work. They want to be challenged, and they often compete with themselves in order to reach new heights of discovery. They’ll relate to Homer’s desire to break out of the confines of his small town and explore the world beyond. Like Homer, ISTPs are competitive, independent, and resourceful. They’ll appreciate the underdog story and the journey of self-discovery that October Sky offers.

October Sky tells the story of Homer Hickam, a coal miner’s son in West Virginia. Homer is inspired by the launch of Sputnik 1 to build his own rockets. His father is opposed to the idea, but Homer persists. With the help of his friends, he sets out to achieve his dream of going to space.

ENTP – Knives Out

ENTP fall movie - Knives Out

“I spoke in the car about the hole at the center of this doughnut. And yes, what you and Harlan did that fateful night seems at first glance to fill that hole perfectly. A doughnut hole in the doughnut’s hole. But we must look a little closer. And when we do, we see that the doughnut hole has a hole in its center – it is not a doughnut hole at all but a smaller doughnut with its own hole, and our doughnut is not whole at all!” – Benoit Blanc

Like all NTs, ENTPs enjoy piecing together the clues and patterns of a good mystery movie. This wildly entertaining whodunit is not only hilarious to unravel but offers a bit of scathing social commentary on the current state of the world. ENTPs will enjoy the way Knives Out blends escapist fun with a look at classism, entitlement, and the ugly side of human nature without ever seeming heavy-handed or self-righteous.

What’s the movie about? Knives Out tells the story of the murder of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey. His family is gathered for his 85th birthday when he is found dead in his study. The police rule it a suicide, but private investigator Benoit Blanc is not so sure. He begins to suspect that one of Thrombey’s relatives may have murdered him.

  1. I’m a regular follower of your newsletter and I agree with most of what you say about my personality (INTJ). This one, however, is a huge exception. Except for Good Will Hunting, which is one of my all-time favourites, I don’t like any of the films you suggested for INTJs and would not recommend to other INTJs, but maybe that’s just me 🤷‍♂️

    1. INTJ here, and I also loved good Will Hunting, but Silence of the Lambs was pretty spot on for me; I enjoy Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector. It’s not the darkness that’s appealing, it’s the battle of wits and following the clues. I loved House MD for similar reasons.

  2. Who gets Somewhere in Time? That’s my favorite. I also love Practical Magic, Hocus Pocus, Sense and Sensibility, the live action Cinderella, and Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. Shows I watch over and over include Frasier, Road to Avonlea, Reba, Designing Women, and Grimm. I test as an INFJ, but I’m not 100% sure.

  3. Attributed INTJ-T here. Absolutely not. Except for Donnie Darko I dislike all of the movies for my supposed personality type. What a ridiculous article this is. I blame myself for even doing the test in the first place. I guess now I can expect this type of nonsense to appear in my newsfeed all the time. Bloody tracking cookies.

  4. Infj here. Eternal Sunshine is one of the few movies on this list that I just didn’t care for. Silence of the Lambs is my favorite. The thing is people usually go to their tertiary function for fun and relaxation. For me a good thriller/mystery is a good break from constantly managing all the feels.

  5. ISTJ here your film suggestion is way off Goodwill Hunting or Ever After would be much more appropriate on this occasion you are completely off the mark.
