Here’s What You Need to be Inspired, Based On Your Myers-Briggs® Personality Type

Inspiration is something everyone craves in life. Yet in the hustle and bustle of responsibilities, the rush of packed schedules, and the distractions of devices and social media, we can often feel devoid of inspiration. Life can start to feel like a cage without windows of opportunity or possibility to light the way.

What one person needs to be inspired can be very different from what someone else needs. You often see this in relationships; one partner is looking one direction for inspiration while the other is looking in the opposite direction.

The ISTJ

ISTJ inspirations

You believe that life is made up of thousands of intricate details and precious moments, each brimming with significance. Every day, you strive to perfect those moments and, in doing so, you create a tapestry of beauty and meaning. Whether it’s savoring a soft morning breeze as the sun gently rises or immersing yourself in one of your cherished hobbies, you find solace in the richness of the details, relishing in the joy they bring. Moreover, you derive immense satisfaction from the knowledge that your life exudes a sense of continuity and stability, serving as a reliable pillar of support for your loved ones. You preserve a sense of routine and tradition that gives life a stable and timeless feel.

A busy schedule, chaotic surroundings, and constant hustle and bustle can deplete your inspiration. It is in moments of peace and solitude that you rediscover your inner compass. It is crucial to spend time alone, whether in nature’s embrace or a personal space like a room or workshop, where you can immerse yourself in hobbies or projects that ignite your passion and bring enlightenment.

Ways to Increase Your Inspiration:

  • Schedule out alone time every day
  • Cancel non-essential responsibilities
  • Create a space that is all your own and personalize it to your specific tastes
  • Create a positive and healthy morning routine that sets you on the right foot
  • Make a playlist of songs that sets the tone for your day and puts you in a good mood
  • Practice mindfulness exercises such as yoga or meditation to achieve clarity of mind
  • Find a hobby or pastime that stimulates your curiosity and awakens your creativity
  • Take time each day to appreciate the little things and be grateful for what you have.

The INTJ

INTJ inspirations

For you, satisfaction comes from the constant search for meaning and deeper understanding. You’re thrilled when unraveling the mysteries that lie “behind the curtain” of everyday normal events. Whether you’re reading Carl Sagan over a cup of coffee or pondering the constellations of glowing stars at night, your radar is finely tuned to cosmic significance and profound insights. The rush you feel when envisioning the future and attempting to imagine what lies ahead is unparalleled. You find solace and inspiration in moments of quiet meditation and deep contemplation, as they enhance your ability to grasp the profound intricacies of the world around you.

Achieving an objective also brings a profound sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. The act of crossing off tasks on a to-do list, making strides towards a goal, or enhancing the efficiency of your surroundings is truly gratifying. Planning, decision-making, creating, and refining structure provide a deep sense of purpose and contentment. In contrast, disorder, a chaotic schedule, and a lack of direction can leave you feeling drained and unmotivated.

Ways to Increase Your Inspiration:

  • Organize one part of your life to run more effectively
  • Set goals with realistic deadlines
  • Make time for peaceful meditation and reflection
  • Write down ideas as they come to you
  • Spend more time at the library
  • Get enough sleep (most adults need between 7-9 hours per night)
  • Spend time alone in nature
  • Put efforts towards a cause that lies close to your heart

The ISFJ

ISFJ inspiration needs

Your inspiration stems from the small details in life that create meaning, beauty, and timelessness. You’re deeply moved by the beauty of the world, and you find joy in simple moments. Whether you’re admiring the lush shades of fall leaves whispering through an autumn breeze or staring at the stars in wonder, your appreciation for aesthetics is matched only by your admiration of people and their stories. You understand the strength of relationships and how connection can enrich your life. Your cultural awareness and understanding of the importance of tradition bring about a sense of security, as you use it to ground yourself in the present moment.

Naturally empathetic, you are deeply moved by persons who have overcome immense hardship and have triumphed against all odds. You’re inspired when you see the beauty of a person’s soul, even in the darkest moments of life.

You find yourself uninspired when your creative energy is blocked or suppressed, or when there is too much focus on materialism and superficial appearances. You experience a deep sense of contentment when your goals are within reach and you can see yourself making consistent forward-progress towards achieving them. The feeling of having structure, order, and efficiency in your day brings a sense of confidence that all is under control. Moreover, it brings you immense joy to know that your goals are perfectly aligned with what truly matters to you – that you are living a life of integrity, purpose, and not merely chasing material possessions, but rather focusing on personal growth and fulfillment.

When you become overwhelmed with the need to complete too many tasks at once, or when there are no clear steps towards a goal, it can be difficult for you to stay motivated and inspired. Sometimes you can feel so driven by task accomplishment that you forget to notice what matters most in life. You may feel that too many people are depending on you for you to take a moment to relax. Additionally, if you are surrounded by people who lack discipline or emotional control, you may find yourself feeling uninspired, rattled, and run-down.

  • Make time for exercise, this will increase stress-reducing endorphins and boost your well-being and health
  • Spend time in nature and observe the world around you – watch the sun rise or set, listen to birds singing, etc.

You find yourself inspired when others around you are happy and healthy, when your relationships are strong and meaningful, and when you have made the most of every opportunity available to you. You feel motivated by warm connections, by community, and the knowledge that each of us is interconnected in ways we do not always acknowledge. You are also inspired by being part of something larger than yourself, where you can contribute and make a positive difference.

On the flip side, too much time alone or without meaningful connection to others can leave you feeling uninspired. You may find it difficult to stay motivated when faced with conflict, especially if it centers around people you care for or violates a value you hold dear. If life seems unstable and unpredictable you can also feel too stressed or uncertain to be inspired and joyful.

Ways to Increase Your Inspiration:

  • Spend time with people who bring out the best in you, and who recognize your worth
  • Take steps towards creating meaningful relationships at work or school

You are most inspired when you can combine your skills and vision with that of others to create something bigger than yourself. You have a natural hunger for the profound, and an appreciation for depth and conceptual understanding. You are also inspired by helping those around you reach their full potential, and seeing them grow and thrive. Raw, authentic meaningful conversations that get to the heart of what matters can also bring out your energy and enthusiasm.

You may become uninspired if your current projects lack meaning or purpose, or when you’re in an environment where others don’t share your same values and vision. Shallow conversations or conflict-ridden environments can also make it hard for you stay motivated. You will need to take extra care of yourself during these times, as your emotional well-being is an integral part of your inspiration.

  • Make time for meaningful conversations with close friends and family – this will help remind you why what you’re doing matters
  • Craft your work around a cause that has meaning for you
