The Top 25 Favorite INFJ Movies

As an INFJ, one of the things I like to do for fun is to study patterns in human behavior and human interests. Recently I decided it would be really interesting to see if there are any common themes that different Myers-Briggs® personalities prefer in movies. I decided to start with the INFJs. I asked other INFJs for their top ten favorite movies, and I got over 781 responses on facebook groups, forums, and email. After sorting through them all, I was able to make a list of the 25 highest-ranked favorites.

Here’s what I found out: INFJs have very eclectic taste, but out of all the genres, they seem to have very obvious favorites.

Get a closer look at the favorite movies of the INFJ personality type #INFJ #MBTI #Personality

INFJ Favorite Movie Genres:
1 – Thrillers/Mysteries
2 – Epic fantasies
3 – Dramas
4 – Family movies
5 – Romances

While INFJs can enjoy a good action movie or comedy as well, most INFJs wanted a deeper emotional context for the movie to be enjoyable. Shoot-em-up action blockbusters or crude comedies rarely came up as preferred films – and neither did slasher horror flicks, although a good psychological horror movie was often enjoyed.

So without further ado, here are the top 25 favorite movies as voted for by INFJs.

#1 – Amelie

Amelie is a comedy-drama that follows the life of a young Parisian girl who has lived a rather solitary, quiet existence. She has an incredible imagination and wants to know what the meaning of life is and how to find happiness (sound familiar, INFJs?) After returning a long-lost childhood treasure to a former occupant of her apartment and seeing how happy it made him, she decides to spend her life devoted to helping others and spreading joy and happiness – along the way, she discovers love with a quirky man who collects discarded photo booth pictures.

Why INFJs Love It: INFJs are quirky and often misunderstood. They have a deep desire to help the human race, but often can’t figure out how to do it. Along with this, they have a nagging desire to understand the meaning of life and what true happiness is. The character of Amelie is a quintessential INFJ, and the movie gets into the INFJ perspective in a way few other movies can.

#2 – The Lord of the Rings Series

Lord of the Rings follows the adventures of Hobbits, Men, Elves and more as they try to destroy the One Ring, which had been lost for centuries, and is now being hunted by evil forces from Mordor. It’s up to Frodo Baggins and his friends to destroy the ring, fight evil and defeat the forces of the Dark Lord Sauron.

Why INFJs Love It: INFJs love the depth of the characters in this story, and the fight for good to triumph over evil. There are also two prominent INFJs featured in the movie; Gandalf the Grey and Galadriel the elf ruler. Lord of the Rings is filled with symbolism and stunning visuals, both things that appeal to Ni-dominant/Se-inferior types like INFJs and INTJs.

Johnny Thm, an INFJ movie buff says Lord of the Rings is “The adventure you seek when its raining outside and you smell a lost experience.”

#3 – The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

When Joel and Clementine’s relationship starts disintegrating, they both look into a procedure to have each other erased from their memories. However, as Joel’s memories gradually disappear, he realizes he can’t live without his memories and love for Clementine and fights to hold on to each memory before it is gone forever.

Why INFJs Love It: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a movie full of depth and layers that truly explores the human experience of love and loss. We see how even our worst memories make us who we are, and how there is humanity and beauty in even our worst relationships and most terrible moments. Each character has depth and each moment has significance – this depth and beauty is what draws INFJs into this comedy-drama-sci/fi-romance. Plus, how can you dislike a movie that fits into so many categories?

#4 – To Kill a Mockingbird

“To Kill a Mockingbird” is a poignant tale set in the racially segregated American South during the 1930s. The story is narrated by Scout Finch, a young girl, who recounts her experiences growing up in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama. At the center of the plot is Scout’s father, Atticus Finch, a principled lawyer tasked with defending Tom Robinson, an African American man falsely accused of raping a white woman. Through Scout’s eyes, the novel tackles themes of racial injustice, moral integrity, and the loss of innocence as she and her brother, Jem, navigate their way through a world rife with prejudice and inequality. The characters’ struggles and ethical dilemmas provide a profound commentary on human nature and the complexities of moral courage.

Why INFJs Love It: INFJs, known for their deep empathy, idealism, and insightful nature, are likely to find “To Kill a Mockingbird” profoundly moving. The film, with its themes of justice, morality, and human compassion, resonates deeply with their core values. INFJs have a natural ability to put themselves in others’ shoes, making the story of Atticus Finch and his fight against racial injustice particularly compelling. They mentioned being drawn to his commitment to doing what is right, even in the face of overwhelming adversity. The film’s portrayal of deep moral courage and the importance of standing up for what one believes in strikes a chord with the INFJ’s idealistic worldview.

#5 – V for Vendetta

V for Vendetta is set in the future in Britain after a World War. Tyrrany and oppression are the new norm, and freedom fighter “V” plots to overthrow this tyrrany with the help of a young woman named Evey. V for Vendetta is the epic
story of fighting terror with terror.

Why INFJs Love It: INFJs are incredibly passionate about changing the world, and vehemently despise any kind of abuse of power. Championing is something that may NF personality types believe in, and “V” exemplifies this perfectly. As INFJ FaithAnne Crane says, “V for Vendetta exemplifies that idea that justice is not for sale…sometimes we NEED to give karma a helping hand in order to make an example out of doing the right thing. How much injustice are we as human beings willing to tolerate in the name of peace? “Go along to get along” is not an INFJ motto.”

#6 – The Original Star Wars Trilogy

Star Wars is an epic masterpiece of cinema – telling the story of good versus evil in the unforgettable way only Sci-Fi can. Star Wars follows young Luke Skywalker as he joins forces with a Jedi knight, a reckless pilot, a wookee and two droids on an adventure to save the universe from the Empire’s evil forces.

Why INFJs Love It: INFJs love good versus evil stories. They love the idea of an unseen ‘force’ that can be bent to one’s will – but should only be used for good. Star Wars deals with a lot of spirituality and unseen forces; things that delight the intuitive mind. While Star Wars is probably going to wind up in many ‘top 25’ lists, I think that the reasons that each type loves this story will be different. As INFJ blogger Marissa Baker writes, “Star Wars was my “gateway” into science fiction obsession, which I’m attracted to because of the limitless “what if?” For Star Wars specifically, I like how so many characters with different backgrounds and personality types pull together fighting for a common good. Also, the spiritual aspects are attractive – that power isn’t found in physical strength, but in something outside ourselves that is bigger than us.”

#7 – The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption tells the story of Andy Dufresne, a banker who is wrongly convicted of a double-homicide he didn’t commit. After he is sentenced to life in prison, he befriends Red, the prison “entrepreneur”. Together, they form an unlikely bond and Andy proves that no chains or cell doors can imprison the power of the mind.

Why INFJs Love It: INFJs love a good character story, and the Shawshank Redemption is most definitely that. We are able to see how a powerful imagination and sense of innovation can make anyone free – and how our state of mind doesn’t have to be prescribed by our circumstances.

#8 – Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a simple man with a low I.Q. but high goals and intentions. The movie follows his many adventures, from being a college football star, to fighting in Vietnam, captaining a shrimp boat, and falling for his lifelong friend, Jenny.

Why INFJs Love It: Strong characters and life stories seem to be a favorite among INFJs. Forrest Gump proves that you don’t have to have a high I.Q., be perfectly popular or perfectly intelligent to make a difference in someone’s life or a difference in the world. One fellow INFJ told me; ” Forrest Gump is my all time favorite movie and I think it’s because it’s such an intimate look into his life. It’s not just one surface story, but many long in-depth stories. It’s about family, friendships of all kinds, love, war, journey, the finding of oneself, etc. I’ve probably watched it over 200 times in my life.”

#9 – Donnie Darko

Donnie Darko feels out of place among his family and his peers. On top of his isolation and depression, Donnie Darko is plagued by visions of a large bunny rabbit that manipulates him into committing a series of crimes – through these visions, he learns that the world will soon be coming to an end.  Seeking answers, Donnie investigates time travel in an attempt to turn back the clock and prevent the world’s seemingly impending doom… actions which cause bizarre and life-changing results.

Why INFJs Love It: Donnie Darko is a movie with many underlying themes and meanings that you have to pay attention not to miss. INFJs love a deep, complex storyline that really makes them think. Fun, light-hearted amusement, while enjoyable, will almost always take a backseat to a movie that makes the mind do some hard thinking. Donnie Darko is one such movie.

#10 – Inception

Inception tells the story of Don Cobb, a ‘mind thief’ who has the ability to enter people’s dreams and steal their secrets. His skill has put him in high-demand by the corporate espionage world, but it has also cost him the people he loves most. Cobb gets a chance to start over with his life if he can successfully plant an idea in someone’s mind. If he succeeds, it will change everything – but a dangerous enemy anticipates Cobb’s every  move.

Why INFJs Love It: Like many of the movies here, Inception shows the power of the imagination. You have to think hard to follow the complex storyline – and with that story you will find incredible characters, a tragic love story, and a meaningful message. INFJ blogger Marissa Baker says, “This is how my brain works. Layers and layers of dreams. It’s also what my sister and I call “a thinking film” – a movie that engages our intuitive minds and encourages thoughtful discussion after watching it, rather than just entertaining us.”

#11 – The Princess Bride

This fairy tale adventure tells the story of beautiful, young Buttercup and her one true love, Wesley. After a long separation, Buttercup is forcibly engaged to the evil Prince Humperdink. In Wesley’s attempts to save her, he must battle the evils of the mythical kingdom of Florin to be reunited with her. Based on the William Goldman novel “The Princess Bride” which earned its own loyal audience.

Why INFJs Love It: I think this movie is probably a favorite among many personality types, but INFJs seem to have a particular love of the dialogue and sweeping imagery. The Princess Bride gives us an entertaining adventure story with some memorable quotes and laughs along the way. The verbal sparring and tongue-in-cheek attitude make this a favorite piece of entertainment for INFJs.

#12 – The Matrix

Computer programmer Thomas A. Anderson is made to question reason and reality when he learns he has been living in a program created by gigantic machines who feed off of human beings body heat and electrochemical energy. In order to set humanity free, he will have to face many enemies by using technologies and self-trust.

Why INFJs Love It: INFJs love a movie that will make them question reality – like many other INFJ favorites, the Matrix tells a gripping story about the state of humanity, the power of the mind, and a triumph of good over evil.

#13 – Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go is a heart-wrenching film set in a dystopian world in which human clones are created so that they can donate their organs as young adults. The novel follows the life story of Kathy, a clone who is raised at a boarding school for future “donors.” Her story is related in flashback: Kathy is now thirty-one and about to start her first donations. For the past eleven years, she has worked as a “carer,” a nurse and companion to clones who are in between donations.

Why INFJs Love It: This thought-provoking dystopian tale gives a deeper look at the downside to seeking immortality at all costs. It is filled with emotion yet is never over-the-top or manipulative.

#14 – Spirited Away

Spirited Away

Spirited Away is a magical fantasy about a young girl, Chihiro, trapped in a strange new world of spirits. When her parents undergo a mysterious transformation, she must call upon a courage she never knew she had to free herself and return her family to the outside world.

Why INFJs Love It: Spirited Away is deep and complex, filled with visual intelligence while pointing a finger at materialism and greed. Spirited Away takes you on an adventure that proves the power of the spirit, and the importance of words and love.

#15 – Arrival

In Arrival, the world is in a state of panic when gigantic spaceships touch down in twelve locations around the world. Linguistics professor Louise Banks leads an elite team of investigators to try to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors. Hoping to unravel the mystery of their coming, she takes a chance that could threaten her life and quite possibly all of mankind.

Why INFJs Love It: This movie is steeped in complexity and layers of meaning. The empathy Banks feels for the newcomers, along with her personal story will be moving to INFJs.

#16 – The Lion King

The Lion King tells the story of young Prince Simba, who is cast out of his pride by his cruel uncle, who makes Simba believe his father’s death is his fault. While the uncle rules and threatens the very existence of the pride, the prince grows up beyond the savannah. He tries to forget the pain of his father’s death by living without worries or care.  But when his past comes back to haunt him, the young Prince must decide his fate: will he remain an outcast, or face his demons and become the king he needs to be?

Why INFJs Love It: The Lion King is surprisingly deep and meaningful for a children’s story. It deals with the struggle for redemption, the inner turmoil of living with guilt, and the epic battle of good triumphing over evil. When faced with the horror of our own failures do we live to forget – or do we fight to overcome?

#17 – The Green Mile

The Green Mile tells the story of Paul Edgecomb, a veteran penitentiary guard who is starting to become cynical about life after watching so many men live and die. When the huge prisoner John Coffey is sent to Green Mile prison for an atrocious crime, Paul Edgecomb is surprised to find that Coffey is incredibly kind and gentle. Coffey seemed to possess a prodigious, supernatural gift. Paul began to question whether Coffey was truly guilty of his crime.

Why INFJs Love It: The characters in the Green Mile are deep and complex- and the story captures how often we judge a book by its cover without looking deeper. This is an emotionally resonant movie that captures the attention of the emotionally-rich INFJ personality.

#18 – Moonlight

Moonlight movie

“Moonlight” is a coming-of-age drama that intimately explores the life of a young Black man named Chiron as he navigates the challenges of race, adolescence, and identity in Miami. The film is divided into three pivotal chapters of Chiron’s life, portraying his struggles with his abusive environment, his burgeoning sexuality, and his search for his own voice amidst societal pressures. Raw and powerful, “Moonlight” stands out as a masterful adaptation of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play “In Moonlight, Black Boys Look Blue”.

Why INFJs Like It: INFJs resonate deeply with “Moonlight” due to its emotionally charged storytelling and profound exploration of identity and authenticity. They crave stories that explore human complexity and moral ambiguity, and “Moonlight” does exactly that with its honest portrayal of Chiron’s inner struggles and growth.

#19 – The Harry Potter Series

The Harry Potter series follows the daring adventures of wizarding wonder, Harry Potter, and his delightful friends and intriguing mentors. Going from a miserable, lonely existence as a mistreated orphan to a famed wizard at Hogwarts, Harry discovers the meaning of honor, friendship, and selflessness as he faces his dangerous enemy, Lord Voldemort.

Why INFJs Love It: Harry Potter is a gripping adventure that delves deep into the world of heroes and villains. INFJs love the good versus evil storyline and enjoy the analogies, rich characters, and beautiful visuals that fill the Harry Potter world. Many typologists even believe that Professor Albus Dumbledore is an INFJ character!

#20 – The Fountain

The Fountain tells the story of modern-day scientist, Tommy Creo, who is desperately searching for a medical breakthrough that will save the life of his cancer-stricken wife, Izzi. Searching for the secrets of eternal life, he embarks on three parallel quests, in three lives, in three millennia, in order to unlock the mysteries of life that have consumed him for centuries.

Why INFJs Love It: Since I haven’t seen this movie myself (yet) I’m going to let fellow INFJ Sven Gins explain why he believes INFJs enjoy this movie “I love how it challenges me (as an INFJ) to seek patterns in different -and yet similar- stories. There’s this vibe of everything being connected and important; like in Cloud Atlas. I love how despite it being coloured by an intrinsic sadness and loss, the film leads up to this glorious celebration of life itself. In terms of content, soundtrack, and cinematography, this film has it all. I find new things every time I watch it, and each time I am still as fascinated as the first time I saw it.”

#21 – Gladiator

Gladiator follows the life of Maximus Decimus Meridias, a powerful Roman general, who was chosen by emperor Marcus Aurelius to be heir to the throne instead of his own son, Commodus. In anger, Commodus kills his father and sets out to destroy Maximus and his family – sentencing them to death. Maximus escapes execution, but is sold into slavery and is forced to become a gladiator. Eventually, Maximus and his fellow gladiators are sent to Rome to perform for Commodus. Through his bravery, he wins over the masses and reveals his true identity, much to the dismay of Commodus.

Why INFJs Love It: Gladiator is an epic tale with rich characters, stunning visuals, and an unforgettable fight for good to triumph over evil. INFJs love a good hero story and enjoy the depth each character is given by the screenwriters. This movie has action, romance, drama, and a haunting soundtrack to top it all off.

#22 – Good Will Hunting

Good Will Hunting is the story of a wayward young man who struggles to find his identity while grappling with memories of a traumatic childhood. He lives in a world where he can solve any problem, except the one hiding deep within himself. Finally, one day he meets Sean, a therapist who will change his life and helps him come to terms with the blows life has dealt him.

Why INFJs Love It: This is another movie I haven’t personally seen yet – however, fellow INFJ FaithAnne Crane has some insights into why INFJs love this movie:

“Good Will Hunting is about survival and finding your place in this crazy mixed up world. It captures the whole catapult of emotions and the loyalty of friendship. This story has a desired affect of doing the hard needed soul-searching to get to the root cause of motivation. All INFJs know everything is emotional. We can see it clearly in others but fight with our own souls to know, to be, and to love it.”

#23 – Batman: The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is a gripping story that follows the efforts of Batman and Lieutenant Jim Gordon as they set out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. While their partnership proves to be effective,  they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the citizens of Gotham as The Joker.

Why INFJs Love It: The Dark Knight is one of the darkest superhero films around. It goes deeper into the emotional chaos of heroes and villains and offers a richer dimension to the characters than you’ll find in most other superhero movies. It’s surprisingly thought-provoking and deep, and you’ll find yourself thinking about its questions long after you’ve finished the movie.

#24 – Interstellar

Earth’s future has been corrupted by disasters, famines, and droughts. There is only one way to ensure mankind’s survival: Interstellar travel. A newly discovered wormhole in the vast reaches of our solar system allows a team of astronauts to venture to a planet that may have the right environment to sustain human life.

Why INFJs Love It: INFJs love the abstract nature of Interstellar and the layers upon layers of conceptual meaning and complexity. This movie is visually and conceptually stunning with a lot of ideas and impactful meanings for INFJs to analyze long after the movie ends.

#25 – The Shining

The Shining tells the terrifying story of a family who become the winter caretakers of an isolated hotel. Danny, the son, begins seeing disturbing visions of the hotels past using a telepathic gift known as “the Shining”. The father, Jack Torrance, is working on a writing project when he slowly slips into insanity as a result of cabin fever and the influence of ghosts belonging to the former guests. After being convinced by a waiter’s ghost to “correct” the family, Jack goes completely insane and tries to murder them.

Why INFJs Love It: INFJs love a movie with a psychological mystery behind it – and the Shining gives them that. Along with this, there are mysterious visions that the viewer has to try to figure out. INFJs are deeply affected by symbolic images and patterns, and so the Shining gives them a mental puzzle to figure out.

  1. I test as ENTP, and this is MOSTLY my favourite movie list as well. Only movie that’s missing is Interstellar.

Although there is no way you’re going to get me watching The Notebook.

    1. I just saw Interstellar a few weeks ago and LOVED it! It definitely had quite a few votes – although, since it’s a newer movie, I think less people have seen it which is why it didn’t get quite as many votes as the top 25. About the Notebook, I totally understand. I like it as sort of a cheesy guilty-pleasure type movie – but I would never list it in my top 25 🙂 No offense to anyone who does!

      Thanks for your input!

  2. I think Wes Anderson directs some great INFJ type movies with a lot of depth…like Rushmore, Life Aquatic, Fantastic Mr Fox, etc. I’d also add to this list: Big Fish, The Social Network, Boyhood, and some of the Terrantino’s films (Kill Bill, Unglorious Bastards) probably due to the good over evil aspects and our desire for justice.

    1. Thank you for your feedback! Those are some really good movies – and Big Fish, in particular, got a TON of votes from INFJs, it just didn’t quite make the top 25. I think all of Wees Anderson’s movies were voted for as well. I didn’t make up this list myself, I basically just created an excel sheet, asked any INFJ I could find (either on forums, groups, personally) to give me their top 10 favorite movies, then I added it to the list and tallied it up. A lot of my personal favorites didn’t make the list (I really thought more INFJs would like ‘Never Let Me Go’ but alas, only one other person mentioned it). I haven’t seen Boyhood, I’m going to have to find that!

      1. I’m surprised more people didn’t mention it as a favorite, especially INFJs, but maybe it just wasn’t popular enough to get noticed by enough people!

    2. Boyhood was particularly amazing to me. I could have sat through it in the theater again immediately upon the credits rolling. I was shocked to have several friends tell me it just didn’t grab them at all.

  3. Apart from a few, (for e.g. The Notebook, The Shining, etc.) it looks like our favourite movies are the same. The description for the LOTR movies is eerie, because rainy weather is my favourite for watching them. And I adore Nolan films!

    1. Thanks for your feedback! I had such a huge list of favorite movies from INFJs, that I knew that the top 25 here wouldn’t be every INFJs favorite. I just tallied up the votes and listed them in order of ranking. I definitely wouldn’t list The Notebook or The Shining as my own personal favorite movies, although I enjoy them to a certain extent. Thanks again for the comment!

  4. Very interesting. I consistently test as INFJ, but like maybe half of these films. Then again, movies are extremely subjective. This was fun to read though!

    1. Thanks for your feedback! There were soooo many movies selected as favorites by INFJs that I know we will all have different opinions. Only two of my top ten made this list! I was SURE Never Let Me Go would make it, and only one other INFJ voted on it! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the list anyway! This is kind of a test really for me, to see if there are any similarities. Overall when I see the entire list of favorites by each type, I DO see themes…but it’s harder to tell in just the top 25 list. Certain movies (LOTR, Star Wars, Inception) have been picked as favorites by just about every type.

    1. Thanks for commenting! I know the list is not going to appeal to every single INFJ. I’m an INFJ and I’m not that fond of a couple of these movies myself! I am just trying to see what movies get the most votes by each type to see if any patterns or themes emerge.

  5. Some of these are right on, there are a couple that I will que up. But so many are scary, scary — I can’t even think about (or type the names of) some of them.

    1. I’m glad you like some of them! I don’t know if you mean scary like horror, or scary like you don’t like them? I know not every INFJ will like the list. It was simply ordered in number of which movies got the most votes:)

  6. I feel pretty strongly about a few of these movies but not many. Number 1 is right on the money of course. Here are some I think ought to be on the list: Finding Neverland, Stanger Than Fiction, The DaVinci Code, X-Men, Hugo, Waitress, About Time, Yes Man, Dicergent, Pride and Prejudice, Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy.

  7. I wonder if the babadook came up at all in your research? Fairy taleish with underlying meaning and some depth there!

  8. This is so spot on. Spirited Away (Miyazaki films are incredible), The Lion King (Disney movies in general!), Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Princess Bride, The Dark Knight, and a few others. This list perfectly explains why I love all of these. I love this list! I now also have a few others I’d like to see!

  9. Hi

I agree with some of the other readers. I probably liked about half the numbers on the list.

I would like to add two of my own INFJ favorites- Life is Beautiful and Patch Adams.

    Thanks for an interesting article.

    Hayley

    1. Those are both really good movies – I especially love Life is Beautiful! I think most people aren’t going to like every single movie on the list, this is really just about 250+ INFJs favorite movies all tallied together to see which movies came out on top. There are a lot of movies that weren’t included that I know MANY INFJs love 🙂 I’m glad you at least liked some of them!

  10. I’ve got to say, I hated Fight Club. I actually came into very open-minded and really expected it to be a great movie, but I honestly was so very disappointed after seeing it. I did love most of the other movies on this list though.

    1. Thanks for your input! I know that movie is definitely not for everyone! I have been surprised by how many people have voted for it in each type I’ve surveyed so far. I personally enjoy it, but I can understand others’ issues with it. I’m an INFJ myself and I think only one of my top 10 favorite movies made the list! 🙂

  11. I haven’t seen the The Notebook, V for Vendetta, or The Fountain, but since I love all the others on here so much, I feel like I’m missing out!

  12. Literally every favorite movie of mine is on this list, apart from The Wrestler, Pulp Fiction (for the soundtrack alone) and There Will Be Blood. However Miyazaki films are quickly becomming my favorite, they remind me of the unbridled imagination I used to have as a child
    Great list thanks for posting!

  13. INFJ here!

This list is so very accurate. Some additional faves:
    Finding Neverland (w/ Johnny Depp)
    Kingdom of Heaven (Orlando Bloom)
    The Interpreter (Nicole Kidman)
    Stranger Than Fiction (Will Ferrell)

    1. Thank you!! Those are definitely some incredible choices – I love, love, love Finding Neverland. I need to watch Kingdom of Heaven 🙂 Thanks for your input!!

  14. Many are definitely movies I’ve loved or liked alot or have been wanting to see. Some will be added to my “to – watch” list.
However, I have to say I strongly dislike psych thrillers. Sure, their being scary is one thing, but what creeps me out more is knowing that there was the mind that created that kind of twisted story. But maybe I will have to bring myself to try one sgain, perhaps from the list…
Also agree with other favorites – Patch Adams, Finding Neverland, Stranger than Fiction. Would add Ever After, The Proposal, and Rent.

  15. I haven’t seen some of these movies but the ones I have I love them! I would like to add Short Term 12, is definitely one of the best movies I have seen.

  16. Oh man, a lot of these are my favorites, some of these I haven’t watched but would very much like to, and a few I’ve watched but felt were a bit too cheesy for my tastes (The Notebook, ahhhh.) Why aren’t Ghost World and Big Fish on this list?

    Or maybe Mr. Nobody?

    1. Thanks so much for your feedback! I’m glad you enjoy some of the movies on the list! Ghost World, Big Fish and Mr. Nobody all got a lot of votes!! Unfortunately, they didn’t get as many votes as the other movies on this list. This list only includes the 25 ranked in order by how many votes INFJs gave them – there are definitely a lot of other good movies (like the ones you mentioned) that got a lot of votes, but just not as many as these.

  17. Wow I was really surprised! I’ve seen several other INFJ/INFP favs and all I ever think is “there’s no way this writer’s an INFJ/P”… but this list is good! My fav of all time is Lost in Translation, and other favs are Amelie; Eternal Sunshine; Forest Gump; Donnie Darko; Princess Bride; LOTR; Star Wars; Dark Knight…pretty much ANYTHING by Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki, and I’m also a HUGE Potter-head, but I definitely prefer the books over the movies. Fight Club was good, as was Good Will Hunting. Now I want to see V for Vendetta and check out the synopsis for Bed of Roses so thanks for the suggestions! I didn’t know what it was about. The only ones I disagree with are Matrix & the Notebook. Matrix never sat well with me for some reason and Notebook was waaay too cliche. Some of my suggestions are: Winter’s Bone; Lars and the Real Girl; Silver Linings Playbook; 50/50 (if you can tolerate the vulgarity from Seth whatever-his-name-is); 500 Days of Summer; The Girl Who Leapt Through Time; What If; Warm Bodies……………….. then I read all of this and think “Wow, I watch way too many films.” LOL!

    1. Lol! I love your suggestions! A lot of those movies got voted for many times on my list – I basically just tallied them all up and put them in order from most votes to least – but since there were soooo many movies that INFJs voted for it just ended up being something where so many awesome choices got left out. I love Lars and the Real Girl and definitely think that’s a movie INFJs would love. Thanks for your feedback – I hope you enjoy V for Vendetta!

  18. I agree with just about everything on here except for The Green Mile. Not that it isn’t an excellent and well done film, because it absolutely is, but because my INFJ/Empath personality can’t handle it. I felt like I was personally experiencing everything that was happening and it was emotionally draining. There may have been wracking sobs and ugly crying. I definitely agree that Big Fish and Finding Neverland should be on here. Great list overall!

  19. As an INFJ, my favourite genre is mostly drama (since I’m a sensitive man who’s mostly interested in characters and story) but I’m not really picky about genre. When I watch films that have a different genre, I take the mindset of focusing on the characters and story (even if it’s a simple one) and apply it to other films of that same genre. This is probably the reason on why I usually watch films of EVERY genre.

Im terms of my favourite films, they are The Shawshank Redemption, Road to Perdition, Punch-Drunk Love, The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyseey, Fight Club, Old Boy, Terminator 2, Inception, Pulp Fiction, The Monty Python films, The Cornetto Trilogy, Philadelphia, Brokeback Mountain (I’m not gay. I just love this film), Cast Away, The Dark Knight, Barton Fink, Submarine, Citizen Kane, Kill Bill, Rope, Mad Max: Fury Road, Nightcrawler, Se7en, Vertigo, Memento, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Game and The Iron Giant.

  20. Yes, as an INFJ I like all these, Amelie and Lost in Translation struck a particular cord, and would add:-
    Stranger than Fiction
    A Single Man
    Love Actually
    The Hours
    Eyes Wide Shut
    Interstellar
    Gravity

    1. Thank you for reading and sharing your opinions! I haven’t seen all of the movies you suggested, but the ones I have seen I absolutely love! Now I have some more movies to add to my ‘must-watch’ list 🙂

  21. Maybe the list is for young INFJs. I found a couple but many were not in the list. Also, not a huge movie or TV person. Helps with the empath overload that seems to come from watching. Good article.

    1. Thank you, Beth! There were so many movies mentioned that I know there are a lot of INFJ favorites that didn’t make this list. I just tallied them all up and ranked them based on their votes. I’m not a big movie or TV person myself anymore! I completely understand the empath overload you’re talking about – I would almost always prefer to read a book at this point. Thanks again for reading the article and sharing your thoughts with me!

  22. I’m an Infj and I’m surprised to see here many of my favourites film!I don’t know some of them but Harry Potter, Titanic, V for Vendetta, Shawshank redemption, Donnie Darko , American Beauty, and all the Miyazaki films (like Howl’s moving castle) are in my top list.I especially love fantasy or mistery film,or stories with a bit of magic in real life(like Amelie and Forrest Gump)Above all, the plot and characters must be well done and clever.I love very much Tim Burton ‘s films like Edward Scissorshands and The chocolate factory (I like the oldest version too).I would add Brokeback Mountain, A room with view, Dead poets society, Fried green tomatoes and Avatar. However this list of favourite films for mbti types is a very nice idea! I like it ^^

  23. Expected to see Contact on here in addition to at least some of Tarantino’s gems. Secondhand Lions, Big Fish, The Fifth Element, The Neverending Story, and Labyrinth? Schindler’s list and Silence of the Lambs!

  24. Fun to read that list! I don’t even know all of the films, and also don’t like all of them (cough cough The Notebook, hehe), but that’s okay. I am just glad my beloved Star Wars is in there!

I got so much to say about missing films tough!
    – Finding Neverland: yes yes yes! I just guess it is not so widely known in general, so it wasn’t voted by enough people?
    – Never Let Me Go: I understand your bewilderment. Man that movie was intense.
    – Kingdom of Heaven: As mentioned by a commenter – my secret all time favourite move.
    – Avatar: Funny this didn’t make the list, it is very obviously a good vs. evil story, also big pictures and epic music, so INFJs should love it 🙂 Well, I do at least.

Finally I am very surprised that no one has mentioned Les Misérables (the 2012 movie). Too much feels maybe? I love it and I love how it makes my cry like crazy every time.

    1. You have some VERY good suggestions on there! I love all the movies you mentioned….except maybe Avatar, but that’s okay. I’m probably just weird or something because everyone else I know loved it 🙂 I adore Finding Neverland, Never Let Me Go, and Les Miserables. I haven’t seen Kingdom of Heaven yet. I’ll put your votes in for those movies and maybe someday The Notebook will get outvoted 😉

      1. I know I am 3 months late to this, haha! But if you record my favourite movies into the list, then let’s do this right, shall we? Because Never Let Me Go wouldn’t make the list, I just mentioned it because I can totally understand that others like it.

So, this isn’t easy because I like so many movies, but I guess that’s my top 10 as of today:

        1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
        2. Les Misérables
        3. Kingdom of Heaven
        4. Twilight
        5. Star Wars: A New Hope
        6. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
        7. Avatar
        8. Titanic
        9. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
        10. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring

        And many many more! 🙂

  25. Surprised there’s nothing by Tim Burton, especially Edward Scissorhands. Replace The Notebook (which I can’t stand) with Edward and I’m on board. I also think Beauty and the Beast deserves a spot. They’re about inner beauty and emotional connections.

    1. I would definitely replace The Notebook with Edward Scissorhands if it was up to me! 🙂 Unfortunately, that one just got far fewer votes than The Notebook did! And I love Beauty and the Beast. I am definitely going to add your votes for Edward Scissorhands and Beauty and the Beast and if we get many more votes for them we can re-work this list 🙂

  26. Interesting reading the list and then others comments. I’m INFJ too and quite a few of those listed resonate with me – V for Vendetta, Matrix, Inception and LOTR especially. My personal taste is perhaps a little darker than some and often with a lot of symbolism or alternate realities, so The Crow, Constantine, Dark City and Suckerpunch would all make my list. I’m finding all your INFJ articles to be compelling reading – thanks for publishing them all.

    1. Okay, now I will have to add The Crow, Dark City and Suckerpunch to my list! I started watching Suckerpunch, but I was watching it with my mom and I think it’s not the kind of movie you watch with your mom :-/ I need to finish it someday! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, and I’m SO glad you enjoy the INFJ articles! It’s so nice to know they are resonating with other INFJs 🙂

  27. I’d mostly agree with this list… several of those are absolutely favorite movies for me. Fight Club, for years, was one of the movies I could watch to break a terrible mood. The one that’s off for me hear is Eternal Sunshine. I abhor that movie. Couldn’t sit through it. I have a difficult time with Jim Carrey anyway – he’s the definition of ‘trying too hard’, touched on in the “how to annoy an INFJ” article, and the movie is so much about horrible memories, which is mostly what i end up actually logging/remembering of life anyway. On several levels, the movie was incredibly painful to watch, and difficult for me to even discuss the themes in depth. I don’t think i’ve ever actually seen it to the end. Between subject matter and carrey seeming fake to me (or worse, carrey often seems incredibly fake-funny to hide real depression… which feels like how I often view myself, and is awful to then watch in someone else) I outright loathe that film.

  28. Methinks many of your focus group are actually INFPs who think they’re INFJs. 🙂 Whatevs, a fun read! A lot of movies I actively disliked (even one I have intentionally avoided: Forrest Gump), a couple that are indeed my favs (Princess Bride of COURSE, Amelie, Donnie Darko, Good Will Hunting). I tend to like stuff with a bit of darkness or oddness, something with a twist on the everyday. Like American Psycho, Secretary, The Fall, Dogtooth. Would be fun to do another one of these but with books!

  29. Seriously, I don’t get the hype about Amelie at all. Am I the only one who actually hates it? I watched it because most INFJs suggested it and it was even critically acclaimed but it’s seriously hard to swallow. And I’m a confirmed INFJ. The sardonic jokes weren’t funny to me, some seems like mocking Christians? And the whole movie is just weird in a bad way. Even Lucien, the nasty greengrocer’s assistant seems like an autistic. A movie I won’t regret forgetting.

  30. I resonate with Wild Blue’s critique of some perhaps leaning more INFP than INFJ. I loved the article and that you did this research to gather the top 25! I want to see some from the list now I haven’t yet, and even pick some up for good that I don’t own yet. I’m not German btw, but one I would add to this forum is the German film, Run Lola Run. It has a very cyclical theme of repetition in it that some INFJ films also seem to have. 🙂

  31. What about The Book Thief? I watched that one several times and I usually don’t like to watch movies more than once.

  32. Quite a few of my favorites made this list. Princess Bride and V for Vendetta are two I could watch forever. There are a few here I wouldn’t have chosen personally, but I definitely understand why others would. I’m genuinely surprised to see that there hasn’t been a single mention of Guillermo del Toro within the article itself or the comments. I’ve been on a serious del Toro binge for the last few days that has really reminded me how much I love his work. The Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth are amazing. I recently watched The Orphanage (produced by del Toro but not directed), and by the time I finished it I was in tears. It quickly shot to the top of my list as far as movies are concerned.

    1. Pans Labyrinth almost made it into the top 25, it just needed a few more votes! I am adding your vote for it to my excel sheet, and if we end up getting more votes that put it on the list I will update this page 🙂 I’m glad you liked some of the choices! I will have to watch ‘The Orphanage’ now!

  33. Fun read! Some of them are movies I love others are some I think I’ll never watch. I’m a INFJ myself and my favorite genres are action/comedy a lot of the times because I feel like I want a break from my own head.

  34. It’s super interesting to see three movies based on Stephen King novels in the mix. I’m an INFJ and a huge King fan. His in depth character development, his sense of metaphor and symbolism and his relationship with the supernatural world and mysterious places of the mind make him and excellent choice for INFJ readers…that is if you’ve got the guts ????

  35. I am an INFJ and very selective on what I watch and put time into. I was quite impressed with the list of movies given. I have seen most and am so glad to know i have a few more to watch. I have to say i love ‘Shine’, ‘Cinderella Man’, ‘Million Dollar Baby’, ‘Geisha’ and especially ‘Never Let Me Go’. I honestly dont know if its an INFJ thing or not but I have to say the movie mentioned above were awesome.

  36. The Accidental Tourist, Benny and Joon, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Anne of Green Gables movies with Megan Follows, The Secret of Roan Inish, an older movie called Housekeeping, The Hours…

  37. If you INFJ’s want another movie suggestion rife with adventure, fantasy, laughs, and true love I definitely recommend Stardust <3

  38. My name is Anne Montano, as an INFJ, I agreed with 8 of the movies posted – then again, I haven’t seen the others mentioned.
I also enjoyed Hannibal, Fracture, Fragile, The Grudge, just to name a few other movies other INFJs would truly enjoy as well.

  39. Fairly accurate for me.., 15 of them are very good movies. I definitely agree that the notebook and titanic are “guilty pleasures”

  40. I am INFJ and reading this list made my heart beat fast! I love every movie listed here that I’ve watched! Inception, matrix, v for vendetta listed here really surprised me. I love them and more on here! Il be watching the Movies here that I haven’t already seen.

  41. Extremely accurate! I would also list Moulin Rouge and Equilibrium. I think tragic romances seem to be the type I am drawn to, but not sure why. More in the Moulin Rouge, Tristan and Isolde, PS I love you way, and less like the usual Nicholas Sparks movies where someone gets killed off. (Notebook is a favorite, though.)

  42. I was pleased to see LOTR trilogy as second. I love those movies and watch them yearly. Quite a few of the others still catch my attention when they are on TV. I’ve had Amelie on my list to watch

  43. I loved most of these movies but by far My favourite as an INFJ is Contact adapted from Carl Sagan’s book by Robert Zemekis. A wonderful fantasy/love story that exams both science and faith.

  44. I was pretty evenly split on yes, meh, and I don’t know, with out right ‘no’ in the lead at 7 of those movies on the list. I don’t like LOTR, Star Wars, or any space movies/ shows at all. I’m sad not one of the Shakespearean movies made the list. The Lion King hit my ‘meh’ radar as Frozen, in my opinion, is way better. I also think The Little Mermaid is better than The Lion King. But, I haven’t seen 6 of the movies listed and I’ll likely attempt to see 4 of them because they at least sounded interesting. I like a lot of films that never became big like Remember Me and Sunshine Cleaning. Love, V, Inception, Harry Potter (listed) and Sherlock Holmes, Divergent series, Boondock Saints, Now You See Me. Sad not to see The Fault in our Stars, or The Theory of Everything. But I also don’t truly had favorites of any thing, so I know if asked on the fly, I wouldn’t know what to say.

  45. I have never heard of the fountain, but will be promptly looking for that. Cloud Atlas is my current favorite movie. Also great but not on this list: Frequencies, About Time, What Dreams May Come, and Rise of the Guardians. There are a lot of entertaining movies out there, but for a movie to be “great” in my book, I either have to cry or question reality.

    1. These are definitely more my style. I cried and thought about life for about an hour after I watched About Time.

  46. Although lesser known and an artsy movie, I think “Tree of Life” is the quintessential INFJ movie. It is driven not by plot but by the thoughts of a man as he asks big questions about the world and himself, and reviews his most emotional memories to try to make sense and meaning out of it all. With little dialogue, you are instead dazzled by stunning, dramatic cinematography and music. It is full of symbols, and everything is important, so that I notice something new each time I watch it. It’s long and will take time to process, so watch it when you really need to go down that wonderful INFJ well for a while. It’s also not for all people and moods, so avoid watching when you want something more light or with people who you expect won’t have the patience to sit through it quietly… otherwise, they could ruin the experience for you. I suggest watching alone or with people you can share reactions with afterwards.

  47. As a child, I’ve always loved Titanic and The Lion King. My parents always tell me that I used to cry my little young heart out with TLK but I’d still watch it day in and out.

Anyway, I will be watching the movies listed that I haven’t seen yet. Thanks!

  48. I’m an INFJ, but most of these aren’t on my list. I love epic stuff like Lord of the Rings, but I’m also drawn to thoughtful romance and comedy. Dan in Real Life, About Time, As Good as It Gets, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Sabrina (original version), BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, The Village, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, The Italian Job, Little Women, Hidden Figures, The Help, The Black Stallion, Mr. Holland’s Opus, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Say Anything, A Few Good Men, Enchanted April, Hoosiers, Ratatouille, 42, Into the Woods, Life is Beautiful, and La La Land would be among my favorites.

  49. I’m an INFJ, my daughter is an INFP and many of these movies are on our favorites list. She gave me Amelie for my birthday & I still have it. Another that always pops up is Slingblade. And The Big Lebowski.
Movies are important to us. We love a good story.

  50. I would hate a few of these but many I do love…just not violent stuff (fight club is WAY out for me). However, that being said, I did love “Ghost in the Darkness”, it was complex and intriguing. I loved that it had a real story behind it too. It was riveting to me. I also really loved “Good Will Hunting”.

  51. I am also an INFJ and one of my favorite movies are on the list above especially titanic and lion king. Also one of my other favorite movie is Disney’s Hercules(1997). Would Hercules count as one of the movies in the list? Megara is one of my favorite heroine from that movie and love how strong, fierce, and independent she is. I heard that she is an ISTP and I wish I can be more like her even though I am an INFJ.

  52. I am an INFJ and one of my favorite movies are titanic and lion king. Also my another favorite movie is Disney’s Hercules (1997). I think that movie should also be on the list. Megara is my favorite heroine from that movie and I just admire how strong, independent, and fierce she is. She is my spirit animal. So she is an ISTP right? I wish I can be more like her even though I am an Infj. I also can be able to relate to her realistically than any other Disney princesses.

  53. I agree with many of these, at least the ones I’ve seen. I would also add What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams from 1998, that one really sticks with me after all this time and its probably been almost 15 years since I’ve last seen it. I’m sure there are probably more I could list if I spent some time thinking about it. However, I have to admit that I like some cheesy comedies such as Napoleon Dynamite and a few others I won’t name 😉

  54. I do love a lot of these, but the movies Pride and Prejudice, You’ve got Mail, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding would definitely be at the top of my list as well. They’re classics!

  55. “ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF SPOTLESS MIND”

WOW! THIS REALLY IS A RESEARCHED ARTICLE (Or right from the heart of an INFJ!)

INTRICATE NUANCES can only be observed and appreciated by an INFJs.

  56. I would add movies like Pan’s labyrinth or Room in the list. Maybe not as famous as most of the entries, but among my most favories and I believe an infj would most probably enjoy. Pan’s labyrinth for the great music acting and visuals, for being deep down an emotional film, following the jorney of a little girl with a mission set in mind against anybody who tries to discourage her. The fantasy elements , revolutionary setting, well done script and bittersweet ending certainly help.
Room (2016) for the suspance in the first part and exploration of emotional aftermath in the second. Again, amazing casting, script, visuals and music. Seeing things from the perspective of these two specific characters is fascinating and sucks you in. Infj’s love to get sucked in not only in the story but also the characer’s emotions and thoughts. The weirder / uncommon, the more enjoyable and challangng the experience

  57. Only a couple of these would be on my INFJ list. Most I hated I ever saw them!! Many I refuse to see. But then I’m mostly a romantic. Movies like You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, under the Tuscan Sun, Sahara, Tears of the Sun, Beauty & the Beast, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Somethings Gotta Give, The Blue Line, The Help, I could go on and on. Thanks for letting me vent.

  58. I’m not an INFJ but many of these movies make my top 25 list as well. So really, I have to wonder if the commonality lies not so much in personality types but simply in “movie types,” meaning a brilliant, well-made, emotive movie done with quality actors and remarkable cinematography will make the top-25 list of just about everybody.

  60. When I’m asked what my favorite movies are of all time I always respond Fight Club and Moulin Rouge so I was excited to see Fight Club on this list! Another movie I saw recently was Vanilla Sky for the first time and I feel like if you like Eternal Sunshine then it’s a movie you will enjoy.

  61. Well, I’m not saying these aren’t good movies. But most of them I probably wouldn’t want to see a second time. I do not like movies that cause me emotional heartache when it’s not even real life. There’s enough real life emotion! I definitely prefer comedies! There were two on this list that make favorite list Star Wars and The Princess Bride! My all time favorite movie is Back to the Future, (all three of them). As an INFJ, the movies I like have to be movies that my friends and family like watching with me, and the have to have good music!! ❤️❤️❤️

  62. i am an infj and i think your list is missing a few movies. my all time fas are the godfather trilogy, jeremiah johnson and big red one.

  63. may i suggest some more movies?

    “Pi – the movie” (1998)

    “The Big Lebowski” (1998)

“No Country for Old Men” (2005)

    “The Usual Suspects” (1995)

  64. Several of these movies I’ve seen multiple times, & others I’m excited to try out. Definitely, Usual Suspects & even the Italian Job. Loved The Expendables trilogy & both Red (with Bruce Willis). Gonna use this list to watch the others on the list! Thanks!

  65. The fun part, as an INFJ If i dont already love the movie in this list, it is a movie I have never watched.

  66. I’m an INFJ and the only movies on this list that I care about are Donnie Darko, American Beauty, Fight CLub, and The Shining.

  67. I must say that I am an INFJ and most of these movies are on my most favorite list. I was pleasantly surprised! There is also a French movie called “Jeux d’enfants” that I think could fit into this category.

  68. Amazing job !! They are all on my list. I think, that Jane Eyre (2011), Penelope, The Raven and The Danish girl can also fit in this list

  69. Great work. I really like this list. There are several movies here that ARE my favourites! Of the ones I haven’t seen, now I have a list of movies I’m sure to love. There are a couple more that are my favourites that I’m curious what other INFJ’s think of them: What Dreams May Come and City of Angels.

    1. Yes! What Dreams May Come is one of my all time favorites and I completely forgot about City of Angels. This INFJ likes them both.

  70. I’m feeling pretty typecast here. ? I love almost all of these movies. I haven’t seen a couple though. I will now!!

  71. I actually HATE all the movies on this list except for Good Will Hunting and The Shining. What does this mean about me if I’m an INFJ?

  72. I am an INFJ and I only care for a few movies on this list. I don’t like movies like Inception that are complicated and you have to pay super close attention or you don’t know what is going on. I don’t want to have to work at getting “lost” in a movie. It should be easy. I also am not a fan of movies like The Shining.

      1. I like quit a few on this list. I love movies based on true stories, good verse evil, underdog movies and not a movie but I love documentaries! I love Insurgent, Hunger games, I Love all true story war movies, American Sniper, Lone survivor etc. Game night is hilarious. Faith like a potato, Machine gun preacher (violent) but based on a true story and I like it cause he seeks justice. Lion is a fantastic movie. I like 8 mile with Eminem cause (again) I like hearing true stories. Back to the Future is my all time favorite lol. And I love the Avengers movies. I could go on and on lol.
I’m curious, what TV shows do you like?

      2. I loved Game Night – so funny! What TV shows do I like? I enjoy The Last Kingdom, anything BBC (almost), Stranger Things, Sherlock, and for some reason I can’t think of the other ones I like right now! What about you?

  73. This list must be for violence neutral INFJs. I have watched a few of these movies, the more benign ones, and liked them. However, most listed are far too full of feeling opportunities for me. As an INFJ, the feelings in life get to be too much, so I prefer movies that my husband describes as ”nothing happens”. No violence, no revenge, nothing ugly.

  74. Hi! Thank you for making this list <3 I was wondering about the possible movies an infj would like. My infj friend usually suggests movies and most of the time, the reason why he'd like the movies is because he relates to one of the characters or he sees himself in them.

  75. This list is terrible! I am an INFJ and was hoping to find something I could connect to because my husband LOVES movies and this was not it. Way too much violence and emotions. I need a place to rest if I am watching something, and characters I can relate to. I don’t need to be so stressed I am watching movies through my fingers like a little kid.

  76. Isn’t part of being an INFJ being different from others, even other INFJs? Quite a few of these I don’t care for.

  77. I like most of these movies. Some I haven’t seen, but I’d add short term 12 because of the emotional depth to its characters without being cheesy and truman show because of that feeling of everybody around you being in on how you live your day-to-day life is so damn intriguing. Plus Jim Carrey’s acting was the icing on the cake.

  78. Some I liked but none of the “heavier” kind (Dramas/horror/suspense is a BIG NO). Nothing about sickness or tragic/animal content. (Empath/HSP/Introvert here, 3 in 1 as many INFJ) Comedies often even therapy for an INFJ while we under our shadow functions not to mention its let as relax a bit which is so rare for us. Comedy is my fav genre next to sci fi.

  79. I like some of the movies on this list. My favourite INFJ-friendly movie is Frequency. Engages the heart and mind. Stars Jim Caviezel who is quite a clear INFJ movie star.

  80. Spot on. Felt like Lion King should’ve been higher on the list. Inception and the Dark Knight Trilogy are my guilty pleasure movies that I watch whenever I find them on TV. But I do feel like Romance should’ve been a more popular genre amongst INFJs; after all, the reason we like Harry Potter and LOTR and Star Wars is because of the relationships amongst the characters.

  81. I would say that one of my favorite infj-ish movies is definitely Edward Scissorhands. It is beautiful and strange, and has a breathtaking soundtrack. It is a tragic tale in a weird, almost dystopian but colorful world where change is shunned. I love this, because it’s the familiar Frankenstein story of a kind creature being judged before he he’s a chance to prove himself. I love Edwar Scissorhands in particular because of its portrayal of love, tragedy, and human idiocy (for lack of a better word), and also for thie film’s general quirkiness. If I was to make an infj movie list, this one would definitely be on there. (Tim Burton <3).

  82. I’m obsessed with “A Beautiful Mind”. It’s so emotionally charged to be at the height of an already astounding career and watch your world and reputation crumble while trying to create a new normal.

  83. I live this list, I was thrilled when Amelie was first, I actually bought mine from blockbuster, I asked the clerk if I could buy it outright, got a no, but she said if I ” lost” it, the charge would be $4 dollars, since it was a “foreign” film????. Would also recommend 50 first dates, Billy Elliott, Elizabethtown, breakfast on Pluto, millions, and the secret of roan inish.
    dates.

  84. Not so much for me. Suspense and thrillers, yes. Movies scenarios that have a deep meaning or start the thought process of, “yeah, what if that could/did happen?” No way to drama though. I always said there is too much drama in real life to enjoy watching more on tv. I kinda figured most INFJs would like a break from the emotions throughout the day. Maybe it depends if they are a HSP or not. Fight Club and Seven. Just coincidence both have Brad Pitt. I love the philosophy and psychology involved in both.

  85. Bought me with Spirited Away – it is still my favourite movie after many years.

The reason why I love it is, because it so perfectly captured the feeling of letting go of your childhood. You know that pure, happy, warm emotions that fill you up at the thought of something from your pre-teenage years? Imagine grabbing that feeling and holding it tight, knowing, you’ll have to let it go afterwards, because life doesn’t wait or want you to keep holding on.

Spirited Away is the personification of that and that is one of the reasons why I feel in love with it.

    1. I went down the list and was like yes yes yes yes yes and actually giggled you got me. But yes to Avatar and Life of Walter Mitty

  86. “what dreams may come” Any INFJ that watched this Robin Williams film will immediately connect with all the characters on so many levels.
Some of this list was spot on, but definitely missing some of my favorites, like “Avatar” didn’t make the list?

  87. I know this is for movies but I would like to throw out the TV Show Sense8 as another great watch for INFJs. It’s also sci-fi grand good vs evil but it is centered on the ability some people have of connecting with pitchers emotionally and physically. It has a very diverse cast and showcases the importance of empathy. It was created by the Matrix creators and is interesting intellectually, emotionally beautiful, and you get to see great shots from around the world.

    1. Am I the only INFJ who thinks DEAD POETS SOCIETY should be within the top 3 here? Absolutely heaving with empathy – which is surely the foundation of the INFJ template.

      1. i couldn’t agree more!! i was waiting for dps to appear the whole time, it’s such a good movie for infjs!!

  88. I adore this list and I would like to add to the above about TV shows.

    The OA:
An epic, thrilling, mind bending tale, told through the eyes of many people, drawn to a cause by empathy, through hardship and a choice to overcome it.

    Firefly:
What’s right and wrong, what is it worth, what is a family and what will you do to protect it?

    Outlander:
It’s got it all, adventure, time travel, history gorgeous scenery, and a connection between two people that will make your heart ache.

    The Witcher:
    Fantasy, friendship, humor, adventure!

    Altered Carbon:
Visiting the human condition in new and interesting ways. Great characters, twisty turnies, human weakness (or are they?)

and a movie to add to the list:

    Blade Runner 2049:
Gorgeous, heart renching, perfectly written and executed. Watch it with good resolution and sound, and when you won’t be interrupted.

  89. Huh, half of these are movies I noped the nope out of halfway through. They hit me viserally and made me physically ill. I’d add The Constant Gardener, The Golden Compass (ok, let’s be real if it was in movie form rather than tv show form I’d add His Dark Materials), Watership Down (the older animated one), Black Panther, Gormenghast, Akira, and X-men 1, X2, or X-Men First Class to the list. Then again, I am the NF type of INFJ, so that might affect it.

  90. I am absolutely baffled that DEAD POETS SOCIETY is not in the top 3 of this list!!! This has to be the quintessential INFJ movie which is heaving in empathy for all the characters.

Does anyone else feel the same?

  91. Hi Susan
    1. The Shawshank Redemption
    2. The Mission
just have to be part of the list. Especially Shawshank – it’s just incredible; the themes of injustice/justice, pain, suffering and the prison complex if the mind; it’s like a religious experience almost.

  92. List of favorite movies by INFJ, huh?
Strange, but almost all of my favorite movies are mentioned here…

I guess I could be INFJ all this time

  93. As INFJ I enjoy:

    Blade runner
    Outlander
The dark crystal (all Jim Hensons’ work)
Battlestar Galactica/Caprica (the original and latest)
    Guardians of the galaxy
    Amelie
    Howls moving castle
    Rick and Morty
    The shape of water
    Venom

    1. I also enjoy all of these movie choices lol
      I can recommend:
      Boyhood
      Bad romance
      Scar face
Wes Anderson movies (grand Budapest hotel / moonrise kingdom)
      Perks of being a wallflower
      Zombie pride and prejudice
      Stranger things
And lots more but funny when I think about it my mind goes blank so these are the only few I can recall also I’m a 16 year old girl so my taste may differ 🙂

    2. Totally agree with The Shape of Water. I think that not many people could understand such a beautiful movie. Thanks!!💜

  94. Well, I don’t agree with all the picks, not exactly favorites, but most of them I do love. Some other films I would recommend is:
    Her
    Whiplash
Before Trilogy( Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight)- Any Richard Linklater film, in fact
    Inside Out
    Dead Poets Society
    Rain Man
    City Lights(1931)
    12 Angry Men
    The Sixth Sense
    Taxi Driver
That’s all I can think of right now,….though that’s hardly the beginning of my list….

  95. As an infj, I additionally recommend watching “Black mirror” series. I was very intrigued by the ending of each series. You can never predict how it all will end. ~ Psychological thriller.

And as a second one i recommend is scientific drama “I origins”. Watched it several times, I really liked the melancholy vibe in there.

  96. I was really hoping to see ‘Dead Poets Society’ on this list because it’s the perfect movie for all the poetry-loving INFJs out there, such as myself! (Plus, it’s another movie starring Matt Damon and Robin Williams, so consider that a plus!)

  97. Love nearly all of the films listed – especially Donnie Darko, Fight Club & Good Will Hunting.
Three that I’d add for sure are Edward Scissorhands, Pan’s Labyrinth and Atonement. ♡

  98. My INFJ faves:
    Braveheart
    Papillion
    Gone with the Wind
    Silence of the Lambs
    Finding Nemo
    Bridges of Madison County
    Fried Green Tomatoes
    Schindler’s List
    It’s a Wonderful Life
    Where the Red Fern Grows

  99. I did not like most of those movies.
    My faves:
    African Queen
    Jane Eyre
    To Kill a Mocking Bird
    Pride and Prejudice
    Jaws I
    You Got Mail
    Something’s Gotta Give
    Wolf
    Flipped
    Spider-Man (the last 2)

  100. Many on the list are absolutely bang on for me, such as:
    + Amelie
    + LOTR series
    + Good Will Hunting
    + Spirited Away

    Also want to add these:
    + Cloud Atlas
    + Ex Machina
+ Hayao Miyazaki’s Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo
+ Given (the amine and movie: the sound production is nothing short of brilliant)

  101. Other goodies-

    Unbreakable from M. Night
    Gone Girl
    Alfred Hitchcock flicks
    Life of Pi
    Rushmore
    Blue Jasmine

  102. Movies I love. My top 5
    Alien
    Aliens
    Bram Stroker’s Dracula
    The Painted Veil
Star Wars (all 9 of them)
There were alot of other movies that I like that were all ready mentioned. I love Suspense , SyFi, Fantasy and Drama some Horror.

  103. I totally agree with most of them, but for animations I loooove Pocahontas like no other. and as an INFJ/A i think it has the ability to connect with both INFJs and INFPs. Shining definitely won’t be on my List though. AI, notebook, sin city, the sixth sense, and Godfather, the shape of water, Howl’s moving castle, watchmen, what dreams may come, Hannibal the series, and honestly so much more could be on mine 😂
