Have you ever wondered which Disney princess has your Myers-Briggs® personality type? In today’s article we’re taking a look at some of the most popular princesses and describing their personality types in a way that will be easy to understand, even for newbies to type. I hope you enjoy this!

What Are the Myers-Briggs® Personality Types?

The Myers-Briggs® Type Indicator was created in 1943 in order to measure individuals’ personalities and help people better understand their own strengths, weaknesses, and preferences. It is based on the work of Carl Jung and his ideas about psychological types. The MBTI® assesses four areas: Extraversion vs Introversion; Sensing vs Intuition; Thinking vs Feeling; and Judging vs Perceiving.

Discover the Disney Princess with your Myers-Briggs (MBTI) personality type! From Elsa to Snow White, we've got them all here.

The MBTI® has been used to understand communication styles, team dynamics, and organizational effectiveness. It also can be applied in more lighthearted situations such as figuring out which Disney princesses have which personality types!

Disclaimer: Not all 16 of the Myers-Briggs® personality types are represented among the Disney princesses. There are quite a few Feeling princesses and very few Thinking princesses to choose from. I would love to represent all the princesses here, but can’t find one for each type. Also, as these are fictional characters, please take their typings with a grain of salt. As an MBTI® practitioner I can’t sit across from any of these characters and professionally give them a consultation. So these are my best guesses, but feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments!

The Myers-Briggs® Personality Types of the Disney Princesses

ENFP – Ariel from The Little Mermaid

ENFP Disney Princess Ariel

“I don’t know when, I don’t know how, but I know something’s starting right now.” – Ariel

Ariel from the Little Mermaid is the quintessential ENFP princess. She longs for a world beyond the known, beyond the traditional. She craves freedom, exploration, and discovery. And like most ENFPs, she follows her heart – even when others try to discourage her. When forced to choose between a life in the sea or a life with legs (even with the risk involved), she quickly chooses a life above the water. ENFPs are less afraid of risks or change than many other personality types, and Ariel showcases this fearlessness quite well. Her ENFP qualities can be a tremendous strength by helping her to explore new places and keep an open mind to beings who are different then her. However, her ENFP tendencies can also make her a little unaware of her responsibilities, obligations, or the risk she’s putting the rest of the sea life in.

ENTP – Kida Nedakh from Atlantis: The Lost Empire

ENTP Disney Princess Kida

“You are a scholar, are you not? Judging from your diminished physique and large forehead, you are suited for nothing else!” – Kida Nedakh

It was very difficult to find an ENTP princess, but Kida is the closest I could discover. She has a ceaseless curiosity about her peoples’ past, because she believes it holds the keys to unlocking a future where her culture thrives. As an Intuitive, she often speaks in metaphor; “We are like a stone the ocean beats against. With each passing year, a little more of us is washed away.” As an NTP, Kida is full of questions and is skeptical of her father’s poor reasoning. She encourages him to see things in new ways and is open to learning from Milo and the newcomers to Atlantis. Many people will argue that because of her fighting skills she must have Extraverted Sensing (Se), however, anyone can learn physical combat – it is not necessarily a sign of type preferences. Her true motivation seems to be to learn, explore, discover, and find new possibilities for her people.

INFP – Belle from Beauty and the Beast

INFP Disney Princess Belle

“And for once it might be grand to have someone understand I want so much more than they’ve got planned.” – Belle

Belle from Beauty and the Beast is a classic example of an INFP. She loves to imagine and dream of a life beyond the town she’s currently stuck in. But when push comes to shove even her sense of adventure won’t stop her from following her convictions and giving up her freedom to save her father’s life. Belle is insightful, curious, and open-minded. She knows there is more to the beast than his harsh exterior and is willing to take a risk and dig deeper. Her intuition serves her well as she navigates the castle and helps the Beast find himself and develop his inner heart. By staying true to her values, even when it costs her freedom, Belle is able to show both the beast and herself that beauty can come in many forms.

INTP – Alice from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

INTP Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” – Alice

I know that technically Alice isn’t a princess, but I’m going to make an allowance and let her be on this post because I can’t find any actual princesses with the INTP type preferences. Driven by curiosity, Alice follows a white rabbit down a rabbit hole and embarks on an adventure of impossible proportions. She is analytical, skeptical, and loves to debate topics with those she meets along her way. Alice is able to think logically even when dealing with the most implausible of situations (a talking Cheshire Cat anyone?), which shows both her keen sense of intuition as well as her ability to reason through the unknown. Her open-mindedness and willingness to try new things is a sign of her perceiving tendencies, and her thinking style shows up in the way she never stops questioning the world around her. Even when faced with danger or impossible tasks, Alice remains curious and level-headed as she seeks to find sense in the madness.

ENFJ – Mirabel from Encanto

ENFJ Mirabel Encanto

“We were given a miracle, because of you. We are a family, because of you. And nothing could ever be broken that we can’t fix together.” – Mirabel

Again, here’s another non-princess Disney character. I’m gonna let it slide though because Mirabel might as well be a princess! After all, the Madrigal family is treated like royalty throughout their Columbian village. Mirabel has a deep, driving desire to find her place in her family; a desire to connect deeply and intimately. Most ENFJs will relate to this core need and the passion she puts behind trying to be helpful and see others’ points of view.

As an ENFJ Mirabel easily notices others’ gifts, but often feels like an outcast because of her lack of a gift. But in true ENFJ fashion, she focuses her efforts not on mulling over her own problems, but on bringing the family together, helping out, or even cracking the perfectly timed joke. And eventually her intuition guides her to see behind the scenes and unlock the secret of the cracks that stand between the Madrigal family. In her openness to accept new possibilities for her family, Mirabel is able to bring her family together, point out relational issues that need to be addressed, and create unity. In the words of my 6-year-old daughter, “Mirabel’s gift is love.”

ENTJ – Moana from Moana

ENTJ Disney Princess Moana

“I am Moana of Motunui. You will board my boat, sail across the sea, and restore the heart of Te Fiti.” – Moana

I know I’m going to get a lot of flack for suggesting Moana is an ENTJ. After all, she’s a nice girl! She follows her heart! She has imagination! ENTJs are always villains, bad guys, and powermongers, right? Well, that’s where I’ll have to disagree.

Moana is always dissatisfied with the traditional roles that have been prescribed for her by her family. She doesn’t mind the idea of being a leader, in fact, she’s pretty good at it. Coming up with wise, practical advice is easy for her. She finds ways to resolve many problems around the village, moving quickly to make changes for the better. But even with her strengths at leadership, she longs for more. She wants to see what’s beyond the reef.

The need to challenge one’s self, to discover more, and to make big leaps in progress are core drives of the ENTJ personality type. ENTJs need to feel like they’re breaking some boundary or blazing a new trail. They are fascinated by the unknown and hate being boxed in. In a crisis, Moana can think rapidly, and she has a force of will that no one can defeat. Her vision is singular in nature; she longs to see what’s beyond the reef so that she can help Motunui survive. She can also create a strategy to get the heart of Te Fiti past all the obstacles that stand in her way, even when the obstacle is Te Fiti herself. She doesn’t get distracted or derailed and she’s driven by her convictions and her sense of leadership to bring new possibilities and life to her people.

“But ENTJs Don’t Care About People, Right?”

Anyone asking this question has a fundamental misunderstanding of type. And this misunderstanding is why many people, particularly women, don’t type themselves as Thinking types even when they are.

To understand Moana’s type better, we have to look at the “spine” of her personality.

According to John Beebe, a psychiatrist and typology leader, the spine is the defining core of the self. The spine consists of two counterbalancing functions that, when healthy, bring out the best in the individual. The spine of the ENTJ is Extraverted Thinking (dominant function) and Introverted Feeling (inferior function). A healthy ENTJ likes to get things done and meet objectives; they get a thrill from overcoming challenges. But beneath that can-do demeanor is a sense of conviction and purpose. This is where their Introverted Feeling sides comes in; the base of their spine. ENTJs will have strong convictions and values (via their introverted feeling) that they put swiftly into action to make changes (via extraverted thinking). This is ultimately what most healthy ENTJs will strive for.

The villain who just wants power for power’s sake could be any personality type, really – just an unhealthy version of that type. The only way an ENTJ can be healthy is if they have a healthy respect for their feeling side – and often this shows up in values and convictions they are willing to fight or work hard to defend.

INFJ – Elsa from Frozen

INFJ Disney Princess Elsa

“I don’t care what they’re going to say. Let the storm rage on. The cold never bothered me anyway.” – Elsa

Elsa has a longing to understand her place in the grand scheme of life itself. Blessed (or cursed, depending on how you look at it) with the power to create snow and ice, Elsa spends much of her time alone. After accidentally hurting her younger sister, Anna, she locks herself away, determined to control her power. However, her endless repression only makes things worse. She becomes terrified, rigid, and isolated.

Over the course of the Frozen movie, we see Elsa “let it go” and finally embrace her power. Yet rather than returning to Arandelle and fighting to prove her innocence and lead, she goes away somewhere where she can be free. She often avoids confrontation or verbal sparring, instead seeking isolation. I’ve seen people type Elsa as a Thinking-Judging personality type, but a TJ type would feel much more need to defend themselves verbally, make logical sense of things, or make practical decisions. Elsa seems to disappear without warning, following her intuition, looking for her overarching purpose. This lines up more with an NF Idealist mentality.

Eventually Elsa returns to a position of leadership, but she’s always pulled by a sense that there are answers in the unknown. She pieces together clues, searches for meaning, and eventually steps down as leader of Arandelle to become the fifth spirit of the Enchanted Forest. Here, she can fully express her mystical side and find community and belonging among people who are more similar to her.

INTJ – A Combination of Tiana and Elsa

INTJ Disney Princess

“The only way to get what you want in this world is through hard work.” – Tiana

“Yes, I’m alone, but I’m alone and free.” – Elsa

Unfortunately, there are no INTJ Disney princesses. I hope this will change sometime in the future, but as for now the closest combination I can find is if Tiana and Elsa blended together into some Tielsa remixed princess. INTJs have the ambition and pragmatic nature of Tiana paired with the mystical spirit of Elsa. They are incredibly effective leaders, able to take on huge projects and see them through to completion. But they also crave isolation and space to replenish their intuition and feed their introverted side.

ESFP – Esmerelda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame

ESFP Disney princess Esmerelda

“You mistreat this poor boy the same way you mistreat my people. You speak of justice, yet you are cruel to those most in need of your help!” – Esmerelda

I know, I know, another non-princess! But hey, I want everyone who reads this to have someone to identify with. Esmerelda is an awesome example of the street-smart, quick-witted ESFP. She lives in the moment and acts without hesitation. Generous and people-oriented, she speaks her mind fearlessly in the pursuit of justice for herself and those she loves. She stands up for Quasimodo even when a mob has gathered to stone him. She’s also a bit of a showman, entertaining the crowd with her remarkable acrobatics and clever jokes. ESFPs also have many of these qualities; they know how to seize the moment and make life exciting, but they also have strong convictions they won’t hesitate to fight for.

ESTP – Merida from Brave

ESTP Disney Princess Merida

“There are those who say fate is something beyond our command. That destiny is not our own. But I know better. Our fate lives within us. You only have to be brave enough to see it.” – Merida

ESTPs are pragmatic and independent, much like Merida. She is often seen as reckless, but her actions stem from a strong desire to be free and make decisions for herself. More than anything, she wants to determine her own fate, fight her own battles, and make her own way in life. She sees no point in following long-standing customs if they will impede her freedom. Bring war if that’s what it takes to avoid getting married when she doesn’t want to!

Throughout Brave we see Merida grapple with the impossible position her wild ESTP self finds herself in. Along the way she learns that taking risks sometimes leads to great rewards, while also realizing the importance of having faith in those around her. She learns to appreciate her mother’s position, even if she doesn’t necessarily understand it. But she also proves that it’s worthwhile to fight for what she believes in, and that risk is worth the reward.

ISFP – Mulan from Mulan

ISFP Disney Princess Mulan

“Maybe what I really wanted was to prove I could do things right, so when I looked in the mirror, I’d see someone worthwhile.” – Mulan

ISFPs are gentle, introspective and often misunderstood. They’re strong-willed and independent in their own way, preferring to march to the beat of their own drum rather than copy whatever is popular at the time. Mulan is a perfect example of this type. She’s deeply committed to finding her place in the world and she doesn’t want to be boxed in by the expectations of others. She rebels against the traditional path of marriage and instead joins the Chinese army as a male soldier. Like many Sensing-Perceivers, Mulan makes fairly impulsive decisions – but she’s always guided by her sense of conviction. Throughout the movie we see Mulan go from being a confused, underestimated girl just trying to figure out who she is (a strong need of IFP personality types) to a woman who has embraced her strengths, her surroundings, and newfound bravery.

ISTP – Raya from Raya and the Last Dragon

ISTP Disney Princess Raya

“Note to self. Don’t die.” – Raya

No matter what disaster befalls her, Raya is the kind of woman who can come up with a solution on the spot. This is a skill that ISTPs are known for; their ability to troubleshoot in real-time without getting wrapped up in a lot of mental catastrophizing. And no matter what goes wrong, she never loses her wry sense of humor! In her efforts to save her people and rid the world of the Druun, she adapts quickly to her environment, blends in, and gets the job done. Raya has her own code of honor, and she follows it with integrity. Her ISTP nature is a great asset in this pursuit; independent, observant, and logical, she knows how to get things done efficiently and effectively.

ESFJ – Snow White from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

ESFJ Disney Princess Snow White

“Bless the seven little men who have been so kind to me, and—and may my dreams come true. Amen. Oh yes, and please make Grumpy like me.” – Snow White

ESFJs are practical, loving and warm-hearted. Snow White is all of these things. She loves spending time with her woodland friends and can easily win them over with her optimistic attitude and good nature. She knows how to bring up the mood and create an atmosphere of fun and harmony. Whether she’s making pies for her seven dwarf friends, dancing through the night, or enforcing rules about hygiene, she takes charge for the betterment of her new family. Snow White’s ESFJ personality shines through in her commitment to taking care of those around her, even if it means making personal sacrifices. No matter what life throws at her, she pushes forward without losing her faith that life can be better.

ESTJ – Tiana from The Princess and the Frog

ESTJ Disney Princess Tiana

“There’s been trials and tribulations, you know I’ve had my share But I’ve climbed the mountain, crossed the river And I’m almost there!” – Tiana

Hard-working and pragmatic, Tiana is willing to do whatever it takes to realize her dream of opening her own restaurant. An ESTJ at heart, she is decisive, practical, and no-nonsense. When she’s confronted with a frog who needs a kiss to return to his princely form, she retorts “There’s no way I’m kissin’ a frog and eatin’ a bug on the same day.”

Unlike many other Disney Princesses who follow their whims and believe in the power of fantasy, Tiana takes a more logical approach. She works hard for what she wants, and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. She’s also highly attuned to details; tweaking recipes to get the perfect flavor. Sensing-Judging (SJ) types are known for their meticulousness, and Tiana’s shows up in her culinary skills. She loves that good food brings people together and creates a sense of community. ESTJs at heart are often community-builders, with an eye for organizing people and meeting practical needs.

ISFJ – Cinderella

ISFJ Disney princess Cinderella

“I know it isn’t easy, but at least we should try to get along together. And that includes you, your majesty.” – Cinderella

Conscientious and practical, Cinderella naturally takes care of others while making the best of a life that has been cruel and unjust to her. Despite all the hardships she faces in life, she never stops believing in the power of good intentions and hard work to overcome any obstacle. She naturally tends to her little mice friends while organizing the household and trying to get all the animals to get along and stop causing chaos. Naturally, she has a skill for creating stability even in the midst of trying to meet her stepmother and stepsisters’ every whim. Rather than defiantly fighting against her oppression (which could have ended horribly in the time period she lived), she tries to work within the rules to create a better life for herself.

ISTJ – Queen Elinor from Brave

ISTJ Queen Elinor

“A princess does not chortle, doesn’t stuff her gob, rises early, is compassionate, patient, cautious, clean, and above all, a princess strives for, well, perfection.” – Queen Elinor

I’m throwing a queen here in the mix with the princesses because, as of now, there are no ISTJ princesses. Queen Elinor captures the steadfast sense of responsibility that ISTJs strive to emulate. She is pragmatic, hard-working, and detail-oriented. Unfortunately, she still lives during a time when women had few choices, and so she has the exhausting task of trying to prepare wild-spirited Merida for marriage and life as a queen.

At times, Elinor is overly rigid and doesn’t understand Merida’s desire for independence. But when push comes to shove, Queen Elinor can act quickly to do what is right – even if that means bending the rules and fighting to protect her beloved daughter. Beneath Elinor’s strict, sensible demeanor is a heart of gold – and eventually Merida sees it.

  1. I love this. I’ve decided I’m an ESFJ, and my sister has always said Snow White is the one most like me. I know!!! I’ll decide eventually lol

  2. I usually score INTJ on MBTI quizzes, but sometimes I get INFJ. Of all the disney princesses, I am most like Elsa. I think she is more of an INTJ than INFJ. She tells Anna that she’s basically stupid for wanting to marry a guy she just met. That’s logical, something an INTJ would say. As for Elsa running away instead of defending herself, I identify with that too. I only defend myself online. IRL, I stay silent and avoid arguments.
I think Tiana is more like ENTJ than INTJ. She seems extroverted to me. She wants to start her own business like entjs often do.
Mulan seems more like ENTP to me. She doesn’t shy away from people like an I type. She isn’t traditional like an S type. She’s more logical than guided by what people will think of her. And she’s spontaneous, acts without a plan. Same goes for Merida. Both of them are not interested in romance or marriage like an F type would be.
Pocahontas would be an example of ENFP in my opinion. She follows her heart.

    1. I see your point but Elsa always cares about everyone and when she hurt Anna, she got so scared cause she couldn’t deal with hurting someone and besides that, she feels everything a lot and when her kingdom got scared of her in the first movie, she couldn’t handle it logically and instead, got so overburdened by her overwhelming emotions that she decided to run away.
I think she’s more of an F because she feels everything a lot and is really caring towards her kingdom as well, she’s the type of person who’d want her subjects to be happy more than anything else.

    2. I don’t know for Mulan.
I agree with you : she doesn’t show any sign of interest in romance. But she does what she thinks is right and follows her heart, which is a very Fi behavior. But I agree she could also be an ISTP, given how she impressively uses everything around her (cannon or fireworks or garland) to deal with situations.

Se types are not particularly traditional, that’s more a Si user thing (ISFJ, INFP…).
And I find that the way she tries to embody her soldier persona really looks like an ISFP mixing Fi and Ni to try to achieve an image of themselves they want to be. That’s how ISFP personality works : they have a general image of the kind of character they want to be, and they are pretty good to behave the way their “character” would. That’s why they often look more confident than they actually are (and can easily be seen as extrovert people).
And also, “spontaneous, act without plan” is the perfect definition for ISFP 😉 Thanks to Fi+Se : do (Se) what your heart says (Fi), think about consequencies… later (Ni).

  3. It was a relief to get to the INTJ and see there aren’t any representative Disney princesses. As a child I was so annoyed at the helplessness of so many female characters, their lack of agency and dependence on outsiders for meaning and rescue. Even as a fairly young person, I gravitated more to biopics like Lawrence o Arabia–thankfully now a few more biopics of interesting women. And I understand that some of the newer “princess” type movies actually involve strong female characters.

  4. I agree with the unfair bad reputation of ENTJ. When I discovered the MBTI, I also had a negative image of them, until I realised a very dear friend of mine is one. It’s true his way of caring is unusual, but he’s done stuff for me nobody else would do.

  5. Beauty and the Beast has been my most favourite movie since I was a little girl. For so many different reasons. To see that Belle is indeed, my personality type, was absolutely fantastic.

  6. I’m an ENFP and personally I identify more with Rapunzel in Tangled than with Ariel, but it was an interesting read!

  7. I have taken at least a dozen MBTI quizzes and it’s a unanimous INFJ for me. As an INFJ, I relate deeply to Elsa. I really believe she is an INFJ. I would say though it’s a spectrum. On a scale of feeling to judging, being an F doesn’t mean you don’t have J characteristics ad vice versa. Some INFJs might be more F than others.

  8. I’m an ISTJ. I would be really excited for Disney to make an ISTJ princess that we can actually view in a positive light. I would like to think I don’t have much in common with Queen Elinor beyond having the same MBTI.

  9. I would love to know what type you think Rapunzel is. She is my favorite and the one I relate to the most. I am a ISFP.

  10. I am an INTJ but when I think about Elssa I feel maybe that’s right and she is and INFJ. Because of some reasons that she did. And the most important one was because she left her kingdom just because she scared she wouldn’t do her career good which i think that’s a stupid reason @-@
Unfortunately most of the time people do mistakes to realize who is an INFJ and most of thr time it’s misunderstanding with INTJ because they’re also calm quite and sometimes serious…
