The Epic Hero You’d Be, Based On Your Myers-Briggs® Personality Type
In the world of literature and lore, it is often said that our truest selves emerge in the face of great challenges and noble quests. Many of us, particularly in childhood, dream of entering a land like Narnia, fighting dark wizards in Hogwarts, or finding out we have secret powers that appear overnight. When we wake up and realize we can’t leap over skyscrapers, run through walls at Kings Cross station, or walk into our closets to find enchanted worlds, it’s terribly disappointing. I myself even came near to jumping off my roof as a young child because I was sure if I had good enough thoughts I could fly like Peter Pan. I wouldn’t suggest this to anyone else. My mom was not happy.
But let’s not talk about my childhood issues. We’re here to talk heroes. Specifically, the kinds of heroes you’re most likely to relate to, based on your Myers-Briggs® personality type. So with that in mind, let us glimpse the legendary hero that lies within, awaiting the call to greatness.

INFJ – Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird) & Armin Arlert (Attack on Titan)
Just like Atticus (To Kill A Mockingbird), who stands up for what’s right no matter the odds, INFJs have that same deep sense of justice and empathy. They see the world not just as it is, but as it should be, always pushing for better. They detest corruption, shortsightedness, and the obsession the Western culture has with material wealth. Their foresight directs them and they’re always looking ahead to the bigger picture. Finding a higher calling and moving towards it with single-minded purpose is their aim.
Atticus Finch knows he’s dealing with a deeply racist community in To Kill A Mockingbird. Yet he takes on the challenge, determined to help even the most decrepit person in the jury find the little tiny piece of their soul they haven’t lost yet. He helps people to see their own bigotry and corruption, but in a way that is deeply moving and empathetic. He knows that he doesn’t have much hope of winning the case for Tom Robinson, but he’s determined to put a ripple into the hearts and minds of his community and give Tom the best chance he can possibly have.
And then there’s Armin (Attack on Titan), who dreams big and comes up with strategic plans. He’s able to both think critically and empathize with others; being both a peacemaker and a strategic leader in humanity’s fight against the Titans.
Like Armin and Atticus, INFJs have a unique vision that helps them foresee paths others might miss. So, if you trust your inspirations and want to use them to help others, embrace that hero within you—your insight and passion can truly change the world!

INTJ – Gandalf (The Lord of the Rings)
INTJs keep their eyes on the big picture when other types focus on the details of the present moment. Foresight guides them and strategy comes naturally to them. Gandalf, the wise wizard of Middle-earth, embodies the INTJ’s forward-thinking nature. He’s always got a plan, a contingency plan, and the insight to know when something just isn’t right. Yes, there are times he can be hard on the hobbits (we’re looking at you Peregrine Took), but his overall aim is to protect and defend Middle Earth from the powers of evil. He knows when to be firm, when to be gentle, and always when to guide the fellowship forwards, keeping his eye on the big picture.
Your Heroic Talents as an INTJ:
- Strategy

INFP – Frodo Baggins (The Lord of the Rings)
Frodo Baggins, the unlikely hero of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, embodies the INFP’s profound sense of idealism, courage, and emotional depth. Though he may appear small and unassuming, Frodo’s journey taught us all the strength that resides within those who feel deeply and care passionately. INFPs often carry a weighty sense of responsibility for the world around them, and Frodo is an amazing example of that. Even the strongest, biggest warriors would have succumb to the power of the One Ring, but not Frodo. His quest is not only about defeating evil but also about the preservation of goodness and the innocence of his homeland.
Frodo’s resilience in the face of overwhelming odds exemplifies the INFP’s ability to remain true to their values even in the toughest situations. Like Frodo, INFPs should embrace their authenticity, moral compass, and visionary ideals. With their innate empathy and open-mindedness, they can inspire change and encourage others to connect with their own higher callings.
Your Heroic Talents as an INFP:
- Empathy
- Idealism
- Inner strength
- Emotional depth

INTP – Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) & Bruce Banner (The Hulk)
Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series, shows us a softer and more feminine version of the INTP than is usually seen on the big-screen. INTPs are wonderfully quirky and endlessly curious. They march to the beat of their own drum, often seeing the world in a way that others simply cannot. Luna, with her imaginative style, curiosity, and quiet depth, shows us the INTP’s constant hunger for truth and understanding. She dives fearlessly into the realms of the unusual, embodying that delightful blend of intellect and whimsy. You have that spark, too—the capacity to see nuances and possibilities where others are blinded by conformity.
And then there’s Bruce Banner, the genius scientist whose intellect often collides with his tumultuous emotions. The brain behind the Hulk, Banner shows us the INTP’s struggle with the complexities of their own inner world. He battles to harness his intellect while grappling with the raw power of his alter ego. Yet, it’s this very dichotomy that fuels his heroism.
So, as an INTP, embrace your curiosity. Let your mind wander to places it desires to explore. Allow yourself to believe in the impossible—just as Luna does. Dive deep into your passions, whether that’s researching quantum physics or contemplating abstract concepts. You have the power to illuminate the shadows with ideas, to infuse creativity in the mundane, and to inspire those around you by simply being unapologetically yourself.
Your Heroic Talents as an INTP:
- Imagination
- Analytical thinking
- Innovation
- Open-mindedness
- Curiosity
- Problem-solving
- Depth of thought
- Logic

ENFJ – Professor X (X-Men) & Morpheus (The Matrix)
ENFJs are natural leaders, guided by a boundless sense of empathy and a longing to bring out the best in others. Take Professor X, for instance. In a world divided by prejudice and fear, he champions not only the cause of mutants but also advocates for peace and understanding between humans and mutants alike. My friend Denzel, an ENFJ life coach, often uses him as an inspiration in his ability to inspire his clients.
Professor X’s school for gifted youngsters isn’t just a haven; it’s a beacon of hope—a safe space where young mutants learn to embrace their identities and powers. Professor X can see someone’s potential before they can even see it in themselves.
Then there’s Morpheus, the iconic mentor and guide to Neo in The Matrix. No matter what hurdles stand in his way, Morpheus keeps his eye on the big picture: freeing the minds of as many humans as possible and defending Zion from the machines. He’s calm, hopeful, visionary, and steady. When others have their doubts about Neo’s capabilities, he never falters. ENFJs have this same capacity to hold tightly to their ideals and their visions against all odds, guiding others to their true potential along the way.
These two fictional characters can remind you as an ENFJ that you have the same capacity to change the world. When the world feels heavy, remember that your ability to lead with compassion can inspire and uplift those around you.
Your Heroic Talents as an ENFJ:
- Empathy
- Leadership
- Insight
- Community-building
- Emotional intelligence
- Encouragement
- Visionary thinking
- Conflict resolution
ENTJ – Thomas Shelby (Peaky Blinders)
Thomas Shelby is an iconic anti-hero; someone who makes some morally bad decisions but at the same time has heroic qualities. As the formidable leader of the Shelby family in Peaky Blinders, Thomas is my favorite fictional ENTJ character. He’s driven by a relentless work ethic, sharp pragmatism, and ambitious vision. Yes, he’s quiet, and many have mistaken him as an INTJ as a result. But he’s all about action, managing multiple projects at once, moving, making things happen, reacting quickly to incoming events rather than getting lost in his head. This is the ENTJ: They’re extroverts, but they’re less about chatter and more about “getting sh** done.”
ENTJs are often misunderstood and misperceived. Thanks to their bluntness and go-getter, tough demeanor, some people mistake them as heartless. However, Shelby proves that there’s more to an ENTJ than meets the eye. Beneath his tough exterior lies a man who was a decorated war hero, built and supported orphanages, despised racist nuns, and was deeply loyal to his family; driving them from rags to riches. Despite his darker tendencies and moral ambiguities, he often champions the underdog, highlighting the complexity of his character.
As an ENTJ, let Thomas Shelby inspire you to embrace both your tenacity and your values (hopefully in a more morally aligned way than Shelby did). Your ability to strategize and execute grand ideas can elevate you to ambitious heights, but remember that this journey can also be a pathway for uplifting others. Acknowledge that your deeper values and sensitive side can coexist with your drive for success.
Your Heroic Talents as an ENTJ:
- Strategy
- Insight
- Work ethic
- Determination
- Leadership
- Objectivity
- Logic

ENFP – Peter Parker (Spider-Man)
ENFPs often find themselves mischaracterised as distractible, rainbow-vomiting unicorns, thanks to online memes and stereotypes. But at their core, ENFPs are about possibility, vision, and determination. They have the unique ability to turn ideas into action. Take Peter Parker, particularly the Tom Holland portrayal of Spider-Man. Peter has the ENFP idealism, friendliness, adaptability, and integrity. Despite the challenges he faces, including balancing school, friendships, and superhero responsibilities, Peter can jump from one world to another without losing his cool. A Judger would be overwhelmed by the lack of consistency!
Peter Parker isn’t just a dreamer; he actually puts in the work! He uses his science skills to create helpful gadgets, becoming a genius with biology, chemistry, and technology. At the same time, he prioritizes his community and friendships; swinging to the rescue at a moment’s notice.
As an ENFP, use Peter Parker’s example to embrace your own gifts. Your ability to imagine a better world and dedicate yourself to bringing that vision to life is what sets you apart.
Your Heroic Talents as an ENFP:
- Innovation
- Friendliness
- Drive
- Flexibility
- Idealism
- Imagination
- Helpfulness
- Persuasion

ENTP – Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)
Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones isn’t just a clever strategist; he’s a master of wit and charm. His ability to read a room and wield humor and intellectual insight gives him a leg up in tough negotiations. Remember that clever quip he dropped during his trial? “I drink and I know things.” This line is a great example of how ENTP’s can use humor and intellect to disarm others, relate, and gain trust.
Tyrion’s journey is a powerful reminder that being innovative and adaptable can lead to profound change. When he’s faced with challenges—like navigating the politics of King’s Landing or dealing with his family’s lack of acceptance—he uses his intelligence to forge alliances and craft inventive solutions. His infamous decision to use wildfire against Stannis Baratheon demonstrates his strategic thinking and willingness to think outside the box in difficult situations.
So, if you’re an ENTP feeling a bit lost, take a page from Tyrion’s book. Your greatest strengths lie in your ability to think critically, innovate, and connect with others through your intellect and humor. Instead of viewing your distractibility as a flaw, consider it a unique lens that helps you explore various paths.
Your Heroic Talents as an ENTP:
- Strategy
- Innovation
- Humor
- Charm
- Intelligence
- Logic
- Adaptability
- Persuasiveness
ISFJ – Samwise Gamgee (The Lord of the Rings) and Finn (Star Wars)
Now let’s shine a light on the unsung hero of Middle-earth: Samwise Gamgee. ISFJs often feel like they’re in the background, doing the heavy lifting while others get the applause. But think about this: without Sam, Frodo’s epic journey to destroy the One Ring would have crumbled long before he reached the fires of Mount Doom. Sam is the embodiment of loyalty and dedication; he’s the friend who’s always got your back, making potatoes and fighting off ravenous giant arachnids. His attentiveness ensures that even in the darkest of moments, the light of hope shines through.
And then there’s Finn from the Star Wars series. He’s loyal, brave, and protective, with a desire to do what’s right even if that means upsetting the traditions of his community. In the book Before The Awakening, Captain Phasma talks about indications that FN-2187 displays a “dangerous level of empathy.” This empathy is something ISFJs are famous for; in fact, many ISFJs feel like they can absorb other people’s emotions like their own. This empathy, care, and protectiveness makes ISFJs warriors for the communities and people they care about; no matter the odds.
Sam and Finn’s unbreakable support is a reminder to all ISFJs that your compassionate nature and steadfastness are what keep the world turning. You might feel overlooked sometimes, but your quiet strength and caring nature make a huge difference. Remember, it’s often the little acts of kindness and the details you manage that lead to the biggest changes. Be proud of your role as the glue that holds your friendships and communities together. The world needs your nurturing spirit, and just like Sam and Finn, you have the power to turn the tides in the journeys of those around you.
Your Heroic Talents as an ISFJ:
- Loyalty
- Compassion
- Attention to detail
- Dedication
- Supportiveness
- Practicality
- Patience

ISTJ – Aragorn (The Lord of the Rings) & Rick Grimes (The Walking Dead)
Next, let’s look at our ISTJ heroes. These characters really take the cake when it comes to dedication, integrity, and practicality. First up, Aragorn, the steadfast ranger often overshadowed by his royal lineage. He’s all about honor and commitment, leading the Fellowship through danger with dauntless courage while holding true to his responsibility. Despite the immense pressure, he never loses sight of his mission to protect Middle-earth. His ability to maintain focus and exhibit clarity of purpose is a remarkable trait that many can admire. ISTJs are known for this steady focus and determination; nothing will skew them off course.
And then there’s Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead, who is an example of an ISTJ at their best in the worst possible circumstances. From the moment he wakes up in the hospital to find the world overrun by zombies, we see his deep commitment to protecting his group. He consistently makes tough decisions, whether it’s establishing safe zones or strategizing against threats. Not everyone is happy with his leaderships, but they learn that he’s dependable, loyal, and willing to make sacrifices and put his own safety on the line to take care of others.

ESFJ – Dorothy Gale (The Wizard of Oz) & Roger Murtaugh (Lethal Weapon)
ESFJs are the heart of any group, radiating warmth, kindness, and a strong sense of community. Take Dorothy Gale, for example, from The Wizard of Oz. In a world where everything feels foreign and dangerous, Dorothy chooses to face her fears head-on, whether it’s confronting the Wicked Witch or comforting her friends, the Scarecrow and the Tin Man. Her belief in the power of friendship and her desire to help others, no matter the odds, shows us the ESFJ’s power to bring people together and inspire hope.
Then there’s Roger Murtaugh, a character who exemplifies bravery not just through his experience and skills but also by displaying innate decency and fairness. Throughout the challenges he faces, Murtaugh remains steady and responsible. And even though he’s an ESFJ who cares about his relationships more than anything, he also knows how to be tough when necessary and draw firm boundaries. He’s got the practicality of the ESFJ combined with their love of home, family, and consistency.

ESTJ – Bryan Mills (Taken) & Leia Organa (Star Wars)
ESTJs are known for their practicality, decisiveness, and unwavering commitment to their goals. Take Bryan Mills from Taken, for example. A retired CIA operative, Mills has a talent for no-nonsense problem-solving. When his daughter is kidnapped, he doesn’t waste any time lamenting his circumstances; instead, he utilizes his skills, honed through years of hard work and experience, to formulate an effective plan. Mills systematically tracks down each lead, employing his resourcefulness and tactical training to confront and eliminate threats. His focus and assertive action illustrate how ESTJs can navigate chaotic situations by taking control and acting decisively.
And then there’s Leia Organa from Star Wars. As the leader of the Rebel Alliance, she confronts challenges head-on. Blunt and pragmatic, she has no patience for procrastination or disrespect. In the face of Imperial tyranny, Leia rallies her allies and strategizes their resistance efforts with a clear and relentless focus. Her ability to remain grounded and assertive in stressful situations is one of the ESTJ’s greatest set of strengths. Leia’s toughness and no-nonsense attitude give a sense of stability and strength to the allies.
As an ESTJ, remember that you have a unique ability to bring order to chaos, drive projects to completion, and lead others with confidence. Embrace your practical nature and harness it to overcome obstacles, just like Bryan Mills and Leia Organa.
Your Heroic Talents as an ESTJ:
- Leadership
- Practical problem-solving
- Reliability
- Action-oriented mindset
- Strong organizational skills
- Tough-mindedness
- Goal-oriented approach
- Assertiveness

ISFP – Harry Potter & Jon Snow
Now we get to discover one of my very favorite personality types: the ISFP. Let’s start with Harry Potter. He’s that kid who starts out just wanting to fit in and ends up discovering how important it is to stay true to himself, even when things get tough. Whether he’s standing up to Voldemort or simply being there for his friends, Harry’s journey is about finding his place in the wizarding world while maintaining his core beliefs. His personal drive is all about doing what he believes is right even if it means breaking the rules and going against authority. He trusts his instincts, follows his own individual moral compass, and isn’t afraid to go against the status quo. These are all qualities of ISFPs that make them stand out as heroes.
Next, let’s talk about Jon Snow from Game of Thrones. He’s someone who’s constantly grappling with his identity, yet he never shies away from his convictions. Despite being raised in a harsh world where he often feels like an outsider, Jon’s acceptance of his role—whether it’s as the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch or later as the rightful heir to the Iron Throne—demonstrates his inner strength. He doesn’t seek power for its own sake, but rather embraces his responsibilities to protect those he cares about. His quiet determination and authenticity shine through every time he faces an impossible choice, like when he decides to ally with the Wildlings or risk everything to save his people.

ISTP – Han Solo (Star Wars) & Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones Series)
If you’re an ISTP you get to share a personality type with two of the coolest action heroes of all time: Han Solo and Indiana Jones. You’re welcome. You get to be the most impressive personality type of them all. With your ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve, you can handle the tactics of any crisis situation with a level head. ISTPs have a talent for staying pragmatic and alert in crisis situations, just like Indiana Jones and Han Solo. Their ability to think on their feet and troubleshoot effectively makes them formidable allies and resourceful heroes.
Take Han Solo, for instance. As a pilot of the Millennium Falcon, he navigates through the dangers of space and the treacherous encounters of the Empire with a cool head. In A New Hope, during the Death Star trench run, Han’s analytical skills come into play as he assesses the battle, identifies threats, and ensures that he can help Luke Skywalker make the crucial shot. His ability to improvise shows the ISTP talent for adapting swiftly to whatever comes their way.
Similarly, Indiana Jones embodies the ISTP spirit through his knack for hands-on problem solving and physical prowess. He trusts his instincts, follows his gut, and uses his hands-on expertise and knowledge to overcome any obstacle. His expertise in archaeology is not just academic; he uses tools and devises clever methods to escape traps and decipher puzzles. ESFP – Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
ESFPs find their personality hero match in Buffy Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy is upbeat and driven, but with an inner core of conviction, compassion, and selflessness. Like most ESFPs, she thinks quickly on her feet, solves problems on the fly, and looks out for the underdog and anyone who feels different. ESPS don’t care about fitting in with the status quo; they care more about following their own moral compass and being free to follow their instincts, even if it drives them away from the crowd.
In Prophecy Girl, when Buffy learns of her destiny to confront the ancient vampire known as The Master, she chooses to face him head-on instead of allowing fear to dictate her choices. This is where ESFP heroes show up at their best. They adapt, improvise, and forge their own path rather than doing what’s easy or following the pre-determined outline.
And then there’s Buffy’s remarkable agility in the moment. She’s highly attuned to her surroundings, using them to turn the tide of conflict at a moment’s notice. As typology expert Jami Cannon states, “Buffy easily manipulates the physical environment to her liking and appears at her best when she has to improvise in the moment, both while fighting vampires and solving social disputes. This vampire slayer trusts herself far more than fate.”
(You can read the rest of Jami’s article here: The Myers-Briggs Personality Types of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Characters)
Like Buffy Summers, ESFPs are spontaneous, compassionate heroes capable of embracing life’s unpredictability while making those around them feel significant and valued.
Your Heroic Talents as an ESFP:
- Spontaneity
- Adaptability
- Compassion
- Enthusiasm
- Agility in the moment
- Charisma
- People-oriented approach
- Passion for life

ESTP – Uhtred (The Last Kingdom) & Captain Kirk (Star Trek)
ESTPs like Uhtred (The Last Kingdom) and Captain Kirk (Star Trek) embody the essence of boldness and spontaneity. These characters thrive on the thrill of the moment, expertly navigating crises with their charm and quick thinking. Uhtred, a born fighter, showcases his ESTP strengths in countless battles, often relying on his instincts to make rapid decisions that turn the tide. In the series, when faced with overwhelming odds at the Siege of London, Uhtred’s pragmatic approach shines as he employs clever tactics and unexpected maneuvers, showcasing the ESTP ability to adapt on the fly while keeping his team in high spirits.
On the starship USS Enterprise, Captain Kirk takes the lead with a blend of charisma and bravado. In episodes like “The Corbomite Maneuver,” when the crew confronts a seemingly impossible threat, Kirk’s quick wit and problem-solving save the day. Instead of panicking, he boldly concocts an audacious bluff to deter the enemy, proving that a flashy approach is not only impressive but effective. His depth of understanding human nature allows him to diplomatically manage tense situations, engaging allies and foes alike with his charm. This blend of diplomacy, charm, and tactics are what make ESTPs shine in crisis situations and negotiations.
Both Uhtred and Captain Kirk illustrate how ESTPs are not just about action; they live for the thrill that accompanies their rapid decision-making and problem-solving skills. They balance confidence with practicality, making them the ultimate adrenaline junkies—always ready for the next challenge.

I love Uhtred from the Saxon Saga book series! Not so much the TV version. I do wonder if the book version would still be ESTP. Ironically, ESTP is considered the exact opposite of INFJ, but I have noticed some overlap between the types. At least this is the case with my ESTP friend and myself. Anyway this was great! Thank you.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!! I really need to read the books! Thanks for commenting because that is motivation for me to find them at my library. I believe that ESTPs and INFJs can get along really well. In socionics, a typology system similar to Myers-Briggs, they are called duals and the most compatible pair the two types could have!

I am a big Harrison Ford fan in general, especially Indiana Jones and his characterization of Jack Ryan. So it is no surprise that in real life that 16Personalties.com site considers him to have a preference for ISTP. They start their description of that type off with:
“I wanted to live the life, a different life. I didn’t want to go to the same place every day and see the same people and do the same job. I wanted interesting challenges.” – Harrison Ford

As an INTJ who actually leaped from the roof of our woodshed in an attempt to fly to my upstairs bedroom window, with a red towel tied securely around my neck. The pain of my knees hitting my shoulders has not faded in the past 65 years, luckily no permanent damage was done! I soon discovered that the true hero in my life was my Dad, who couldn’t leap tall buildings, but almost!
Solidarity to the other INTJ who tried leaping off a roof!!
