1. INFP – Pet Whisperer

INFP weird job is pet therapist

This might sound like a “woo woo” job, but it’s actually vitally important and requires some advanced training! All those “weird” things that our furry friends do have meaning and significance, and pet psychologists parse out that meaning. Pet psychologists must earn an MS, MA, or PhD in animal behavior and they use that knowledge combined with natural empathy to help animals in psychological distress. With your knack for understanding emotions, your curiosity about the living world, and your love for the underdogs (literally), this is an ideal job for you.

Average Salary: $92,813 per year

2. INTP – Roller Coaster Designer

INTP weird job is roller coaster designer

Imagine being the brain behind the most creative roller coasters on the planet?! As an INTP, your analytical prowess, exacting mind, and natural interest in design, theory, and creativity make you the ideal roller coaster engineer. In this career you’d be able to apply the principles of engineering, physics, and material science for the design, analysis, and maintenance of roller coasters throughout the world. And your skills could extend beyond the theme park as well! Some roller coaster engineers are called upon to create plans for urban transit systems too. With your natural curiosity, ability to think outside the box, and analytical mind, I think you’re perfect for this unusual career.

Average Salary: $95,960 per year

3. ENFP – Toymaker

ENFP weird job is a toy designer

Toys are supposed to inspire the imagination, spark possibilities, and beckon children (or adults) into a world of possibility. I can’t think of a personality type who would be better suited for this job than the ENFP. As a toy designer you’d work alone or with a team to dream up innovative concepts for new toys, then work with prototypes. The best toy designers have an exceptional knowledge, and appreciation for, children’s imagination and play. They conduct studies and focus groups to see how successful an idea will be, and then they market their ideas to businesses, or they sell their toys on sites like Etsy or eBay! With your imagination, enthusiasm, and love of fun and exploration we think you’d be ideally suited for this “weird” job.

Average Salary: $78,769 per year

4. ENTP – Ethical Hacker

ENTP weird job is ethical hacker

Ethical hackers, also known as white-hat hacker, are cybersecurity professionals who use their skills and analytical prowess to identify vulnerabilities in computer systems, networks, and software applications. Unlike malicious hackers who exploit these weaknesses for personal gain or malicious intent, ethical hackers work with organizations to proactively uncover and address security flaws before they can be exploited by cybercriminals. My brother-in-law is an ethical hacker and an ENTP personality type, and he thrives in this career field. Why? Because ENTPs have a natural ability to problem-solve, a driving curiosity that helps them to uncover hidden vulnerabilities, and a penchant for taking calculated risks. On top of this, ENTPs are strong communicators who could get their strategies and methods across to stakeholders and interdisciplinary teams without a problem.

INFJ weird job is fortune cookie writer

I know it’s playing into the stereotype, but can you imagine how incredible fortune cookies would be if they had INFJ writers? Things would get deep and thought-provoking real fast. I remember getting a fortune once that said I would find a lost sock that week. It didn’t happen. I was so disappointed! But if an INFJ was writing fortunes, I’m pretty sure I would have left the restaurant with some profound insight into the meaning of life that would have really made an impact.

6. INTJ – Volcano Explorer

INTJ weird job is volcanologist

Exploring the fiery depths of Earth’s most volatile eruptions might seem like a job for the adrenaline junkie ESTPs of the world. But it’s actually a perfect match for the analytical and strategic INTJ. Why? Well, INTJs are all about studying patterns, foreseeing implications, and taking on complex intellectual challenges. As a volcanologist, an INTJ would apply scientific principles, data analysis, and problem-solving skills to predict volcanic eruptions and mitigate their risks to humanity. In this way INTJs could use their natural propensity to predict and read patterns for the service of humanity! Plus, as a Volcanologist, the opportunity to occasionally work in some of the most breathtaking, albeit dangerous, environments on the planet surely beats a mundane office job.

7. ENFJ – Cuddle Therapist

ENFJ weird job is professional cuddler

ENFJs naturally grasp the emotions, moods, and perspectives of other people. Sure, the idea of them being cuddly is a stereotype; but it’s a stereotype for a reason. ENFJs care about getting people to a place of harmony, comfort, and emotional well-being. Every ENFJ I’ve ever known has gone out of their way to put people at ease and help them open up about their true selves. In this career, they’d be able to help people dealing with grief, depression, medical problems, or past trauma get just a little bit of connection and (strictly platonic) warmth. Sharing a warm hug with someone who needs it and then being able to talk (or listen) is something that would use the ENFJ’s natural gift of empathy and insight well.

ENTJ weird job is storm chaser

ENTJs, with their dynamic energy and tenacious drive, are naturally drawn to challenges that test their strategic thinking and leadership skills. Their strategic minds can analyze weather patterns and make critical decisions on the fly, making sure their team is always in the right place at the right time to capture critical data. And when the going gets tough, as it inevitably does in the path of a storm, ENTJs’ inherent resilience and command ensure that they not only tackle the challenge head-on but also inspire their team to push their limits.

9. ISFP – Ice Sculptor

ISFP weird job is ice sculptor

I know it’s playing on stereotypes, but ISFPs and ice sculpting seem to go hand-in-hand. Maybe I’m suggesting this because every ISFP I’ve known has managed to make art out of literally anything. My ISFP daughter, for example, made a weirdly accurate portrayal of someone’s face out of leftover coffee grounds. They also have written poems about used-up tea bags or plastic Wal-Mart bags. I mean, if something can be made beautiful, an ISFP seems to know how to do it. ISFPs are creative, realistic, and highly detail-oriented. If anyone could turn a block of ice into a stunning piece of art that simultaneously carries emotional depth, it’s an ISFP.

10. ISTP – Video Game Tester

ISTP video game tester

ISTPs would excel as video game testers, and here’s why: their world revolves around a constant cycle of analyzing and solving problems, a perfect fit for the meticulous and exciting task of game testing. Imagine giving someone who enjoys deconstructing gadgets and figuring out how they work, the task of finding glitches in a virtual world. They’d be all over it, not just because they get to “play” for a living, but because the challenge of identifying and resolving unseen issues aligns with their natural way of thinking. Their attention to detail and ability to remain undaunted by highly technical tasks ensure that when a game hits the market, it’s not just good, it’s ISTP-tested, which is to say, it’s as close to perfection as humanly possible.

11. ESFP – Laugh Therapist

ESFP weird job is laugh therapist

I think most ESFPs could turn anything into a funny story, joke, or comedic routine given the opportunity! This is why I think they’d be perfect for the job of “laugh therapist.” This is a job I didn’t even know existed until yesterday, and my curiosity is piqued. Laugh therapists use humor and laughter as a form of therapy to help people cope with anxiety, stress, depression, and other emotional struggles. As natural entertainers and outgoing individuals, ESFPs would thrive in this role. They have an innate ability to find humor in even the darkest of situations and use their charm to make others laugh. Plus, they have a knack for getting people to open up, be real, and share the authentic (and sometimes messy) sides of themselves that others don’t see.

Average Salary: $66,131 per year

12. ESTP – Google Maps Trekker

ESTP weird job is google maps trekker

ESTPs crave a life of adventure and excitement; so they’re practically built for the role of a Google Maps Trekker. These are the people who strap on those massive backpack cams and wander into the heart of the unknown so the rest of us can explore places like The Gates of Hell in Turkmenistan from our couches. Think about it, who better to chart out the nooks and crannies of the planet than someone who thrives on physical activity, notices every detail, and loves a good challenge? ESTPs are naturally curious, which means they’ll not only cover the ground but also seek out those hidden gems that aren’t on the usual tourist trails. Plus, their adaptability means they can handle whatever Mother Nature throws at them, whether it’s a sudden rainstorm in the Scottish Highlands or the blistering heat of the Sahara.

ISFJ weird job is food stylist

ISFJs, with their sharp eye for detail and love for making everything look just right, were practically born to be food stylists. Every ISFJ I know loves toying with details to make them look just right. I know an ISFJ mom who cut all her children’s peanut butter and jelly sandwiches into butterfly and caterpillar shapes for a picnic. Who has the patience for that?! An ISFJ, that’s who. Besides, ISFJs are all about caring and nurturing, so they’d pour their heart into every dish, making sure it not only looks appetizing but also tells a story. Their patience and attention to detail stand out, which is exactly what you need when you’re trying to balance a sprig of parsley on a slice of perfectly grilled steak.

Average Salary: $73,919 per year

14. ISTJ – Teeth Designer

ISTJ weird job is tooth designer

ISTJs are sticklers for details; and I can’t imagine a “weird'” job that is more suited to this than “teeth designer.” These people construct a unique smile through the use of orthodontic treatments like braces, veneers, and other cosmetic dental treatments. It’s not just about crafting a set of pearly whites; it’s about creating a smile that perfectly fits an individual’s mouth. They would painstakingly measure, sculpt, and adjust until every tooth is just right. I mean it might sound kind of dull to some personality types (maybe even to the ISTJs reading this), but with their eye for detail, responsibility for doing things exactly right, and precise nature, ISTJs would be amazing at this career field.

ESFJs, with their unmatched blend of empathy, sociability, and meticulous attention to the nuances of interpersonal communication, would shine as online dating ghostwriters. That’s an ESFJ for you. They’re the type to remember your favorite ice cream flavor and how you take your coffee after meeting you once. Their acute sense of what makes people tick allows them to create online dating profiles or messages that don’t just sound good, but feel authentic and engaging. ESFJs love making connections and helping those around them, so what better way to utilize their talents than by helping others find love? ESTJ weird job is bounty hunter

ESTJs, known for their natural leadership and no-nonsense attitude, are practically tailor-made for the world of bounty hunting. They’re the type to have a plan for everything, and I mean everything. Forget the stereotype of bounty hunters as lone wolves; an ESTJ would have the operation logistically organized down to the T, coordinating with law enforcement and using their extensive network to gather intelligence. What really sets them apart is their dogged determination and unwavering focus. Once an ESTJ sets their sights on a target, they’re like a heat-seeking missile – there’s just no stopping them until they’ve achieved their goal. Plus, their strong sense of duty and justice means they’ll always stick to the moral high ground, making them not only effective but also principled bounty hunters. It’s not just about the chase for them; it’s about bringing someone to justice and restoring order, which is pretty much the ESTJ’s dream scenario.

  1. Hi Susan,

Once again you are so right! As an INTJ I figured out why South America (particularly the Andes region of Bolivia and Peru) is so rich in precious metals such as gold and silver. (Oro and plata for Spanish speakers.)
If one is familiar with the theory of Plate Tectonics one knows that the Pacific Plate is being subducted (or pushed beneath) the South American Plate as the South American Plate slowly moves west. The heavier basaltic Pacific plate is forced downward into the earth’s mantle by the lighter South American granitic plate. (Basalt is a relatively heavy rock compared to granite.) As the Pacific Plate is forced into the mineral rich mantle its rock material which have been made molten (or liquid) by the heat and pressure within the earth sometimes expand upward as volcanoes in the Andes mountains. Thereby bringing mineral rich deposits up to the surface rocks.

The Spanish Conquistadors were astonished by the mineral wealth of the Inca empire. The Spanish had entire rooms filled by the Inca with gold and silver which the Inca believed were just trivial soft metals, worthless for tool making. The Spanish on the other hand brought the metals, highly valued in Europe, back to Spain to make Spain, at least temporarily, the richest and most powerful empire in the West. (Until Spain had squandered its wealth and was surpassed by the rising capitalist merchant state of the Netherlands.)

The “Old” world i.e. Eurasia never produced the mineral wealth of South America because their was no process in that part of the world to bring up heavy, precious metals like gold and silver from the earth’s deep mantle. The mountain building processes in the Alps and Himalayas involved the collision of two light rock granitic continental plates (Africa colliding with Europe and India colliding with Asia) which pushed each other up and did not subduct (or dive) deep into the earth because there was no relatively heavy basaltic rock to subduct.

  3. Fortune Cookie writer? I am the Master in the Last Dragon . I actually get accused of quoting one , like ” no I totally made that up!” I drink and I know things (Tyrion Lannister, I borrow that one..) Storm Chaser and Volcano Explorer are appealing (done both as total amateur), people can prove more unpredictable and volatile: Bjork song’ Human Behavior’ – for my peeps in Iceland. So while dangerous those endeavors can prove oddly relaxing. Good read, thank you.

  4. The pay’s not bad, but apparently, I’m not a fan of animals in general (please don’t think I hate them, I’m just not a big big animal lover) so I doubt I’ll do well. I can see why that would suit, though.
